Approach arming (FS9)

Recommended Posts

When I arm the approach all three autopilots engage. I don't think this is standard for the 747. The other two must be manually armed for an autoland. Is there a way to modify this behavior so upon arming the approach the other two autopilots do not engage?

Joe Esposito

The autopilot issue you are talking about is completely normal. It just provides redundancy and a higher degree of precision. I don't think there is anyway around that. Though I haven't flown the 747 in a while.

Though I am not a RW pilot, I have watched alot of very well done cockpit videos of the 747-400. Have never seen all three autopilots arm when the approach button is pushed. I checked with Mike Ray, he replied that was not how the 747s he operated were set up. Not a huge deal, just wondered if it could be changed.

Hi All, I believe the automatic arming of all three AP channels when APP mode is selected is a Customer option. The Level-D 767 has the option of turning this feature off as it is an option on the real 767. Regards,Lee.

Thanks Lee, I thought that might be the case.
