January 16, 200422 yr What you're probably noticing is the fact that many VCs use just one or two texture sheets as opposed to numberous texture sheets for the exterior model. The quality of any 3D object is a factor of the geometry and the textures. There is a lot of complicated geometry in a VC and trying to map it all onto a single texture sheet, even a 1024x1024 one does not provide a lot of detail to spread around. Of course, you could use lots of texture sheets but then you run into performance issues with trying to load them all on your video card.Of course, you should make sure that the VC quality slider in the display properties dialog is set to high before making a judgement, but I believe it's just a matter of the aircraft creator trading off clarity for performance.
January 16, 200422 yr Author If you were responding to me Dave, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I'm not an aircraft designer, though, so doesn't mean much. If you've got a question (do you?) it might be best posed over at the Aircraft Design forum. Just a thought.
