September 21, 201114 yr Commercial Member I use flightaware for almost everything else:IFR route search (gives you flightplans):http://flightaware.com/statistics/ifr-route/Airport charts:http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/KLAX/procedures - that's the "IFR Plates" tab after entering any US airport on the main page. For charts outside the US the VATSIM region pages are usually the best bet unless you have access to a a real life charts program like Jeppview (expensive). September 21, 201114 yr I suppose you made this thread in response to mine Good read though. I completely forgot about AFCAD updates lol... Is there any good airport maker for KMIA/Miami?
September 21, 201114 yr I use very few maps on vatsim i find that florida or the uk havent moved much in 10 years after all it is not real life it is a hobby so it is not mission critical if one misses the odd runway. The whole idea of fsim is to enjoy oneself not be a pilot wannabee Nigel Porter simhaven. group see: https://www.facebook.com/groups/493455508243014
September 21, 201114 yr The problem with using 6 year old AIRACs, is that back then they didn't have many of the airports they have now. Sure, they had the more important ones, but if you stray away from the USA and western Europe, you'll have a hard time finding anything more than a large regional airport. For example, the second largest airport in my country was added to Navigraph's database about 1-2 years ago. And it's an international airport, with a 10500ft runway. So it's not exactly small.Best solution: use free AFCAD from Avsim, and get 2, maybe 3 AIRAC updates a year. That should keep everything in line. And, in the meantime, get the NGX. Comes with Navigraph cycle 1108. What more could you want? Cristi Neagu
September 21, 201114 yr The main problem with using a six year old AIRAC is that you can't - where would you get it? Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
September 21, 201114 yr Can you clarify whether the bgl files you get with MyTrafficX for example, are effectively updated AFCAD files for FSX? FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb 9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps
September 21, 201114 yr Keep in mind that you can only have one AFCAD at a time in the Addon Scenery/Scenery Folder. That right? I have a couple of hundred in mine, I have checked and there are no duplicates....apart from that what other problem can it cause, never knew this. Bob jackless
September 21, 201114 yr Always been a big fan of Ray Smith's AFCADs. Often wondered if he frequents these boards. One of the unsung heroes of FSX freeware. Dylan Charles "The aircraft G-limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular airplane. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no G-limits."

September 22, 201114 yr Author Just unloaded my Freeware PANC AFCAD cause I purchased Aerosoft Anchorage. Wow! Love this airport now and probably gotta be the biggest download for any airport I have ever bought. 2.3 gigabytes! Very cool and even has the Alaska Railroad Train. I was at YBCS Cairns when I bought it so I am doing a PMDG 747-400X endurance flight right now from YBCS to PANC at 15.5 Hrs. Highly recommend this Airport, one of the best Aerosoft Products I have seen yet! Paul Deemer

September 22, 201114 yr Author That right? I have a couple of hundred in mine, I have checked and there are no duplicates....apart from that what other problem can it cause, never knew this. That another reason I do it like I suggested earlier so I know which files are for what airport. if you got a couple hundred in there and ever buy a payware airport how would you know which files to get rid of? As long as there no duplicates should be fine. Paul Deemer
September 22, 201114 yr Author Got to Anchorage in 12 hours from Austraila. I thought it was a 15.5 hour flight but I had the NGX in the calculations for FS Commander 9 when the 747-400 shoulda been in there. Plus flying at 600 knots with the tailwinds helped. Paul Deemer
