Helicopter cockpits FAR AWAY?

Recommended Posts

I asked this question months ago on this forum, but never got an answer that fixed the problem. Seems when I start the Bell (default) or other helicopters (not all, however), I'm sitting on the tarmac about 50 feet to the right of the virtual cockpit. I have to use the left arrow key to move into the seat of the cockpit. This happens with no other kind of aircraft....only SOME of my helicopters. I just installed the Cera 222 and updates 2 days ago, and sure enough, when I select the helicopter, I'm sitting on the runway about 50 feet to the right of the craft. What could I have possibly changed in FSX to cause this anomoly?Hope someone has an answer for me. Stan

Same thing happens to me when I select the RealAir FS260, I start the flight about 10 feet outside the left rear of the a/c. I've re-run the Ezdok utility who knows how many times but that a/c always loads like that. I've pretty much given up trying to figure it out since hitting my eye point reset puts my back in the saved VC view anyway its not that big of a deal.

The EZ Dok thing didn't work out. I uninstalled EZ Dok, re-installed it, got the latest update, and made all the necessary changes required with that program, but nothing has changed. Certain helicopters ONLY cause this problem. Most do...but not all. I would love to know what I can do to change it, because it take so long to move over to the VC and set up your seating, etc.Would something in the FSX config control that? Stan

For some reason the default camera position has changed. If it was changed by some software, like EZdok, chances are that there is a backup file. Look into your heli folder.

OK....Tell me, what SHOULD the camera position be in the Heli folder? I will change it. Stan

Stan, the aircraft.cfg file for your heli holds information for all the cameras positions. If this file was changed by any software, probably there is, on the same folder, a backup, renamed aircraft.bak or something. You can rename it. If you are brave enough to change the values yourself, open the aircraft.cfg file with a text editor and play with the numbers. You can find information on how to do it and what to change on this article: http://www.fsdevelop...mera_definition Hope it helps.

Sounds a little challenging. Would some kind soul send me the cfg file for the default Bell? If that works, then I know that something changed it. Stan

Stan, you need to look the entries named "[CameraDefinition.xxx]" (xxx is the number of the camera). For example, here is the first camera of my Dodo Bell: [CameraDefinition.001]Title = "Left Seat VC"Guid = {154BA806-B28B-471a-9BBE-34577DAB18A1}Origin = Virtual CockpitMomentumEffect = YESSnapPbhAdjust = SwivelSnapPbhReturn = FalsePanPbhAdjust = SwivelPanPbhReturn = FalseTrack = NoneShowAxis = YESAllowZoom = TRUEInitialZoom = 0.6SmoothZoomTime = 2.0ZoomPanScalar = 1.0ShowWeather = YesXyzAdjust = TRUEShowLensFlare=FALSECategory = CockpitPitchPanRate=30HeadingPanRate=75PanAcceleratorTime=0InitialXyz=-0.6,0,0InitialPbh=0, 0, 0 The numbers that matter are the last ones, InitialXyz and InitialPbh. The first is the position, axis x, y and z. The second, the orientation of the camera. As your seat is offset to the right, probably you have a bad "x" number. You may start with 0,0,0 and then make small corrections until you're satisfied.

Hello Stan, Regarding EZDok, here's how I adjust the cockpit seating view. It's actually much easier to do than to explain in writing: 1. Start up FSX and load a flight with your aircraft of choice. (The helicopter that is giving you trouble, in this case.)2. Once the flight finishes loading up and you are sitting "far away", if you are in full screen mode, change the view to windowed mode.3. Click on the EZDok icon on the task bar to open up the interface. (I'm using WinXP but should work similarly with Vista or Win7.)4. Click on the first slot, which is usually the default pilot seating, and give it a name such as "Pilot Eyes", for example, if it doesn't have one. Also assign a key stroke or combination to bring up that view (usually Shift-1).5. Now we're ready to adjust the view. Hit the number "2" button on your keyboard's number pad. You'll hear a continuous "ding" of a bell sound.6. Using the arrow keys, move the view so that it's inside the cockpit and where you want to be "sitting". You can use the "page up" and "page down" keys to adjust the height.7. When you are satisfied with the view, simply hit the number "2" key again to save the position. That should do the trick.8. You can utilize the other slots for different views as well. Simply save with a different key stroke or combination. Hope this helps!

SOLVED!Thank you everyone for trying to help me get this straight. ESPECIALLY thank "FlyAndFlight". EZDok WAS the the problem. Following FlyAndFlight's advice on setting up the Pilot Eye's fixed everything. Also, once I start off right with one helicopter, like the Bell 206, then all other helicopters seem to start up with the VC clearly in view.Whew! That was a "stumper" for me. I should have realized that when I first got EZDok a few years back, that's when I started noticing that view change. Funny, though, it didn't affect one airplane...only helicopters. Thanks again for the great step-by-step directions, F&F. Stan
