Hey folks, found this to be quite interesting. Look how long it takes from idle to full thrust on the real deal (alright it's a FFS, but still) in the case of an impending stall condition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD2pA9rsJP8(skip to 4:10) Like ten seconds! Quite impressive. It's something people get told over and over, as obviously this is also important on a go-around, but seeing how long it really takes is quite fascinating. Watch how slow it is in the lower thrust range. It literally takes forever to get it accelerated, until at some point is seems to "bite", maybe 70-80% N₁ or so. Also, I often see Airbuses that call out weird altitudes. We all know the usual - 500, [...] 100, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10. However I've seen some that say "eleven", many say "nine" and also "five". What would make an airline choose callouts that differ ever so slightly? On a related note, see this.
