October 11, 201114 yr Hello,I want to buy a new GPU for FSX in specific. At the moment the best card out there is the GTX580. I don't want to spend that much money, so I was thinking about the GTX580 1.5GB. But I've read somewhere on this forum, that a lot of people are experiencing freezes with the 737NGX and this GTX580. So I need some advice on this. Could someone clear this up for me? Are there really that many freezes with the GTX580? Is this due to the big memory size? With what memory versions to the freezes occur? The 1.5 GB version, or 3GB version? Also, if you know a better card for FSX (which is not more than about 300$), then you're welcome to give your advice! Please clear this up for me if you want. Thanks in advance,Arjen Vandervelde Arjen Vandervelde
October 11, 201114 yr Best bang for buck is the gtx560ti. That being said, I also really enjoy my 570's Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64

If you are only looking at FSX, then the 560Ti is a good choice.Yeah, the 570/580 will improve performance slightly, but not worth the added cost if your only consideration is fsx.Edit: actually, with my 570's in sli I bet my performance is closer to what one would experience with a 560ti. ie... Still excellent... Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
October 11, 201114 yr I have the 580, and no problems single card. If ALL you're going to do is use it for FSX, get the 1.5 GB model. If you're going to game, I'd recommend the 3 GB model. Stay away from the 590. _________________________________ -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI 7900X OC @ 4.8GHz | ASRock Fatal1ty X299 Professional | 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (SLI) | 32GB G.Skill DDR4 2800

October 12, 201114 yr Thanks for your reply, but do you mean that the GTX580 is improving performance slightly relative to my current GPU (GTX320), or relative to the GTX560 ti?Slightly compared to the 560ti. You should see a definite visible improvement over yours. It also has the advantage of being able to run higher aa settings while still achieving smooth performance. Not being a tech wiz. Is that because the 590 is two cards in one and therefore in SLI ?Correct. Fsx doesn't recognize sli & using an sli setup adds a small load on the CPU, which would definitely affect fsx in most cases. October 12, 201114 yr Not being a tech wiz. Is that because the 590 is two cards in one and therefore in SLI ? 590 is essentially 2 underclocked 580's on the same board, sharing 3 GB of RAM. It's an SLI card in and of itself. _________________________________ -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI 7900X OC @ 4.8GHz | ASRock Fatal1ty X299 Professional | 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (SLI) | 32GB G.Skill DDR4 2800
October 12, 201114 yr Thanks for your reply, but do you mean that the GTX580 is improving performance slightly relative to my current GPU (GTX320), or relative to the GTX560 ti?No doubt the 580 is the better card, but i would argue, is the amount of performance gain if any (in FSX) worth the considerably higher cost? October 12, 201114 yr One note: if you are interested in a 570 or 580 and play other games I would recommend the 3gb models. There's an edit for fsx that you can use to limit its VRAM usage to 1gb or 1.5gb to avoid the risk if taking up too much address space. October 12, 201114 yr I have the EVGA GTX580 1.5GB and have experienced a flawless NGX. No freezes or anything of the sort as of yet and I have flown some fairly extensive flights on it. Highly recommend the card! Sean Franklin

Highly recommend the card!Nice card indeed, but I'm not rich, how much does that thing cost?(I'm only 16 and quite low on money always). Just updated my pc to a new mobo, case, CPU cooler. And now a new PSU and GPU. Remember: you can always donate! XD Arjen Vandervelde
October 12, 201114 yr What is wrong with the 590 card? I have it and get 100+ fps in the 2D panel with the 737NGX. Paul Gugliotta

Sometimes they go on sale and thats when I got mine. Not that the sale made a huge "dent" in the $530 price tag. It makes for a great flight sim experience where you can basically run anything you throw at it. Sean Franklin
