Tom, this may be of interest...

Yeah, and they have a large antenna that beams their propaganda on subconcious wavelengths to get unwitting souls to steal freeware from other sites and upload it to AVSIM! They bully other flightsim websites with their gang of thugs into paying "protection" just to stay in business.I hear they also steal money from their "worthy causes" to fund Tom's addiction, French Roast Coffee."Any second now you'll see Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts running accross the screen!

I agree with Tom - that this is hilarious! Flightsim.com has limited lines in, so one has to have a login and password to get on the site to get to files and such - and that can take a lot of time. Flightsim is a great site, don't get me wrong, but they also have a "Premier account service" you pay them for the right to not have to keep hitting the back button and retry with password to get in on the site. That of course helps defray their operating costs. Nels has a great site and I enjoy it. But its funny. I don't see AVSIM doing any such thing, and I never have a problem getting to forums or library files unless there is a server problem or switching area problem on the internet. And it DOES cost money to run these operations. The internet grew substantially in a very short time. What had been for scholars and government use is suddenly open to the world. And as long as there are money hungry businesses out there exploiting the internet itself (I seem to recall that there was to be NO ADVERTISING ALLOWED on the Internet itself when it first came to vast public awareness in the early 90's, but then my mind is foggy now anyhow) - charges are to be incurred by sponsers for organizations such as AVSIM to recoup some of their operating costs. And when companies who control access to the internet increase their rates to users like AVSIM, well, gee - AVSIM has to charge more to sponsers to help defray the costs. That is the way Economics work, methinks.Well, I will continue to go to the sites that offer me the things I look for. AVSIM just happens to be my first choice for forums and hey - their news pages has more than just what was newly posted in the files areas. Flightsim is second in my book, only because I have to have a username (Which I have on AVSIM) and password (which I have on AVSIM forum) to get to the main site files (Which I do not have to do at AVSIM!) when authors post their files only to Flightsim. And for those who post files from other places that included readmes clearly stating not to post anywhere else without permission - read the readmes and heed the author's words. That is their right to restrict release and where they go. We as a community should be responsible enough to respect those rights. After all, we want everyone else to respect us, right? So to Tom and the entire AVSIM staff - Not to Worry, and you are doing a tremendous job. Loyalties run deep when those who know the good things AVSIM has done just push away those who rant and rave about nothing other than to rant and rave. AVSIM is doing the job nicely, and recent awards just go to prove it.Best regards,Ken Wood :-sun1Meteorologisthttp://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/bannernewkw.jpgGateway 700X; Intel P4 2.4GHz; 512MB RAM; NVIDIA Ti4200 4X AGP 128MB; SB Audigy; Thrustmaster TopGun Fox 2 Pro Shock

Hi, everyone. That has to be one of the funniest things I read in years. All I can say is, this guy needs a lot of help. I would first recommend that he looks up some definitions, maybe start with

BWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHhahahaha.Wow - I thought the original message was funny. That screengrab is **GREAT!!**I really wonder how our friends over at fs.com take to the whole Ferdy situation? While it does seem like AVSIM folks take more offense to his practices (rightly so), do the others turn away from it? ...(Greg goes to look on the other site...)Time uploading a file to a flight simulation site: Some.Time wasted in writing a longwinded manifesto against AVSIM: Lots.Knowing you just got busted for being a tool. Yet again. : Priceless.

Well All I can say is this:First Class membership at the other sites!!!!!!! :-roll But on AVSIM............ Its all free. How more could AVSIM help this wonderful community?? I think some people need just live and let live. Also I notice that there are many sceneries that are on Flightsim.com, that are not on AVSIM, why is that? But yet we dont see any conspiracy about that do we.I have never ever downloaded, anything from FSPlanet, and never will.I think tom and team should upload their yearly costs of running avsim, It may make some think a little harder.Jason

Oh crap, Tom they are on to us! Time to execute operation AvSim Overlord! :-bat

Ahh The Hypocrisy abounds. As you read that substitute the name of another Flight Simulation site instead of Avsim, and wala... Now it all makes sense, doesn't it?All I can say about that is:Bwahahahahahahahahaha.......BTW - Since the staff is vcmong into this thread. Congrats on your recent awards by another site.Keep up the great work, and thanks for supporting the community as you do.Now... Where's my check????? ;-)Regards,Joe

I'm pretty sure Tom won't give much of an indication, but I can say that our bill to our colocation and bandwidth provider is several thousand dollars per month.

I read the forums pretty regularly, but I'm not big on posting. As you can see this is my first post. After reading this, I was compelled to get a username to post this. I try to avoid the politics of all this - I had quite enough back when I was the SATUSA director in the old SATCO. I'm offering this as another opinion in case someone actually believes this drivel.I've been a freeware developer for many years. I have offered literally thousands of hours of my work for free downloads. I have *never* purchased an add-on for FS, and don't plan to. The freeware offerings are quite good enough for me, and using them honors the folks who put in huge amounts of work to offer them. Needless to say, I'm about as big a supporter of freeware as they come. All that said, I've never questioned Avsim's committment to the flightsim community. Avsim offers file downloads with unlimited access and without bandwidth restrictions. Do they make money on advertising? Maybe or maybe not, but I don't really care. My files are FREE to the end users and are quite easy for them to get. Over five years ago, Avsim offered me web space for my scenery. No charge, no hassle. I've used that web space continuously for the last five years, still no charge. No other flight sim site has made such an offer, at least to me. Late last year, I had a problem accessing the site, and Tom became personally involved to get it straightened out. For the past couple years, my files have been uploaded by me to Avsim only. However, I have not included in my files any restrictions on other *freeware* sites, and they seem to make it to most of the other sites. Let's not get into finger pointing about how files get to wherever they are. Doing that may only cause embarrassment when the truth becomes known.Sorry this was so long, but I just couldn't stay silent. Thank you Avsim, for your commitment to flight simming. I for one don't question it. And, by the way, the name below is my REAL name.Gary Widupwww.avsim.com/hangar/utils/gwidup

To the author of the above diatribe:1 You are malicious and PARANOID.2 You should refrain from posting in public forums so as not to humiliate yourself further than you already have.3 You need and should seek psychological help. Best of luck to youDavid

Yep but I like sceneries that are fairly life like, any from this idiot would be be weird to fly in, wont know if you need to go up, down or sideways and I bet there's no runways in it.Rgds Ron
