Is there a way to not have the aircraft 'dead' during initializing?

Recommended Posts

Hi-i tried to search on this and had no luck.I've been trying to practice final approaches- hence i'm only around 2-3000 ft when i'm loading the save. And while the aircraft is initializing its basically a 135,000 lb lawn dart.I've notice on some save points that the aircraft seems to glide while loading...and most others (esp the ones i'm interested in) its dead and begins an immediate nose dive. I'm not sure what I did in saving one situation over the other. Is there a way around this?thankssteve deparis

When you save the flight, check the box for the 'default' flight, then the next time you are in it should be the same as you left it.

the slew mode looked promising but for some reason after the initialization is complete, there are multiple alarms and a lot of the nav info is gone. I'm not sure how setting it to the default flight changes anything with regards to initialization.i'm surprised more people aren't running into this limitation if they want to practice an approach.

I have! Found it to be too much of a setup problem so I just program and save the flight as ready to take off. Then I just have to fly a pattern to practice landing.

i guess i ultimately may do that..or load the save much higher up to give me space to recover....then maybe increase sim rate to get me on final. I just got the saitek yoke and rudder pedals (former joystick user with autorudder set) so right now landing is like a whole new ballgame for me. I just wanted to quickly be able to practice it over and over again.

I have noticed this as well but I have been saving situations at cruise or just before ToD. One thing I have learned is that as soon as the initialization bar goes away, make sure your cycle the LNAV and VNAV buttons and it comes back to the path in a pretty short order. I've never tried saving a situation in the descent phase and could easily see how that would be problematic (i.e., heavy lawndart, LOL.. classic...) I too would like to save a IAF/FAF situation to practice the manual landings.Ryan,Is it possible the PMDG devs could look into a way to continue the initialization while the sim is paused? Maybe investigate as a possible item for SP2?

That is how it functioned in the 744/8i. I used to pause and wait until the initialization was complete, and then unpause, and everything was good. I wish they would bring back that feature.
