You know what's really amazing, is that it is such a simple concept, that it has taken this long for someone to come up with it. They're going to make a lot of money with this one, once it catches on. (I only wish I thought of it!!!)

Boeing actually tested it and the fuel it saved in taxi was burnt up by carrying that extra weight around.

What's your source? The only test I found that Boeing (Boeing Phantom works) participated in didn't say anything of the kind. The extra weight is said to be no more then 1 or 2 passengers (300 pounds), which is also offset by the extra taxi fuel, that would no longer be needed.http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2005/q3/nr_050801a.html

Well it can't be that bad if an airline like EL-AL is committing to it.

They are just doing feasibility checks now. We'll see if they find the same findings as Boeing.
