Help with autolands...please

Recommended Posts

Hi all,I am having some trouble initiating a full autoland (LAND 3) in the NGX. I have followed tutorial one and also watched a tutorial autoland on youtube. I have both FD's on and both nav radios are set to the correct frequency. I engage command B autopilot and Single CH is annunciated on the PFD. At 1500 the autopilot goes through self checks then only flare is set under GS no rollout though. Then instead of LAND 3, CMD is annuciated on the PFD.Could some one tell me what my problem could possibly be? Sorry Probably dumb question.Worried.gifJoel Fraser

Thanks for reply, when i boughty the NGX, SP1 had been released and when I tried to install it it said it was already installed. Just a question, I'm not on the computer with the ngx installed now, is the honeywell mcp the one that is default installed?Joel Fraser

The default MCP in a particular aircraft depends on which livery and associated airline options you have selected. But, you can easily change the Honeywell MCP to a Collins, and select fail operational vs. fail passive via the PMDG options menu in the FMS. Any aircraft can thus be customized just the way you want it.

Definitely using Collins MCP, Qantas livery. Anything else you can think of that is causing this?Joel Fraser

Fail Passive is also autoland but with NO Rollout so the pilot will have to steer the plane after touchdown.
What do you mean, AFTER touchdown? Taxiing? Impossible! Or are you talking about keeping the airplane centered with the line? Is that what roll out is?

It will steer the airplane down the centre of the runway ! ( rollout )Disengage the autopilot when you have slowed down and are ready to taxi. The Collins MCP has a third channel that can control the rudder.......much like a 747.
Hehe, I guessed right!! Thanks for the clarification!

Don't both "course" windows (captain and FO) on the Collins MCP require the APP course for land3?Both NAV radiosBoth course selectors setBoth CMD buttons selected.

It is standard procedure to set both course windows to the runway heading, regardless of the type of MCP.However if you did not set them correctly..........the plane should track the ILS and Glideslope anyway because of the correct radio frequencies. In this case the radios are more important than the actual course.
Ahh. Great info. Thank you. Just goes to show how indepth this sim really is. I have only done a few auto lands personally. I just love the way she flies by hand and usuall cut the A/P and A/T at 2500ft and hand fly her in. The NGX has already eaten up 290 hours of my life so far! Here's to many many more!Cheers

Are there some maximums of crosswind speed, when it is possible to hold the centerline after touch down for autopilot? And what is the function of C/R button? It appears or disappears, when I change between fail op, and fail passive.

A new MFD button labelled "C/R" (Clear/Recall) is required to display system messages on the upper display unit. These messages could be either "NO LAND 3" or "NO AUTOLAND"http://www.b737.org.uk/flightinsts.htm
