Cannot reinstall FSX

Recommended Posts

Hi,Have had various PC problems in last few days which resulted in reformatting FSX HDD. Unfortunately a drive image of FSX did not work. No problem I thought, I need a fresh installation anyway. When I put DVD in drive (and I have tried various drives) I get the message "Windows cannot find Drive D:\setup.exe" I have done all sorts to try and sort this including resetting CMOS and so many other things I cannot remember. I tried a very old program, Microsoft The Age of Kings, and it fairly leapt into installation. I also tried another program from a DVD and it too installed without any problems. I have another PC and I tried the FSX DVD in that and it proceeded to install without any problems. I have searched the Net for a solution without success.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Mainboard : Gigabyte X58A-UD3RChipset : Intel X58Processor : Intel Core i7 950 @ 3066MHzPhysical Memory : 12288MB (6 x 2048 DDR3-SDRAM )Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 5800 SeriesHard Disk : KINGSTON SNV425S264GB ATA Device (64GB)Hard Disk : KINGSTON SNV425S264GB ATA Device (64GB)Hard Disk : SAMSUNG HD103UJ ATA Device (1000GB)DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8164BDVD-Rom Drive : ATAPI iHAP122 9Monitor Type : LSL 3260W - 25 inchesNetwork Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet AdapterOperating System : Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition Media Center 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1 (64-bit)DirectX : Version 11.00

It is a problem with the W7 Windows Explorer. Try using FreeCommander instead of Windows Explorer to browse the DVD.George

Hi,Thanks for responses. It is worse than I thought. I now find I am getting this result when trying other programs. Some will run and some say that Windows cannot find D:. Thought it might be peculiar to DVDs but I get the same with CDs. I could be heading for fresh install of Win 7 but will continue to research a while longer.
