November 27, 201114 yr This CPU s installed on an Asus P6-X58D-E board. I would like to start over-clocking it and currently have the Intel stock cooler fitted. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good after-market air cooler for this CPU/Mobo combination? I've looked on the web and see quite a few but am not sure which is the best way to go...Thanks for any answers. Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
November 27, 201114 yr It all depends on your budget and how much effort you want to put in. If you want a cheap air then the Hyper 212 Evo is always a good choice. Air and a fair bit better but taking up lots, and lots of room inside the case would be the Noctua NH-D14. You could go the closed loop water cooling direction as well and pick out something from the Corsair H-xx series. If you really looking to spend a bit then you can go all out with a full water cooling loop. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. November 27, 201114 yr Author Thanks. I don't have that much room in my case, and only want to do air at the moment. While you say the Hyper 212 Evo is " cheap", is it effective for overclocking? I realize that I won't be able to oc to the same extent with air as I could with water. Thanks, appreciate the reply,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
