February 7, 200422 yr Believe me satellite internet is not an option.I have been down this road, and I really wish I never bothered, now two-way satellite may be a different story, very, very expensive, but one-way?, forget it.you need to keep your existing dial-up connection for the upstream, and the bandwidth limitations for the downstream are very strict, something like 300mb a month, all this for
February 7, 200422 yr And I was just #### about $29.95 a month for unlimited 2mb cable service. Uploads at 128kb/second; download speeds average between 250-300 kb/second. Takes about 35 to 40 seconds to retrieve a 10mb file and internet browsing is pretty much instantaneous. As fast as I can make the mouse go, anyway. I'm just spoiled, I guess!! Except for www.avsim.com that is. This forum site is pokey much of the time while the library download speeds are fast. Anybody know why?

February 7, 200422 yr andrew/ramsgateDan, I too had your problem with a 2Hr disconection. However I spoke to my ISP, BTopenworld ,last week and they told me that this no longer applies from the Ist Feb for dial-up.I have since downloaded a few large files, and one of 56mgs today with no problems.Perhaps it may be of help to contact your ISP,Andrew
February 8, 200422 yr All that I can say is... I LOVE MY ADSL!I had dial-up for the last 15 years until about three weeks ago and WOW ... what a difference!I get 256 upstream and 640 downstream. That's about 15 times faster than the old dial-up.Even better, it has made Flight Simulator even more of a joy because I can download the real-time weather and use the kneeboard to access those important websites while flying at lighting speed! In fact, I am typing this response while flying IFR from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to Missoula, Montana.Without the DSL, I would be clunking along in flight sim while typing this! Finally, high speed internet prices are dropping. I only pay $27 a month for my ADSL (including the phone line DSL fee) and that is only $7 more a month than I paid for my old dial-up service. Now that's a deal!Hopefully someday all areas of the globe will have AFFORDABLE high speed internet access. It's the only way to fly!Happy Simming!Scott :-)ATP/CFII - KCOS, in the real aviation world!
