Building a Sim pit for the NGX. A few questions

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to FSX in general but hope to build a simpit around the 737ngx over the next month/years.I have look at many MCP/EFIS units but some require drivers to work with 737Ng and they say they are not looking to update the drivers in the near future. So would like to know who has a simpit like I'm looking to build and what MCP/EFIS are you using? Are you using the default instrumentation or Project Magenta?Any help gratefully acceptedChris Edwards

Hi Chris. The whole idea of this thread is how to build a sim pit without having to use Project Magenta.PM makes it easy because the displays, MCP, CDU's etc are all seperate programs. (Check out Ivar's website !)I too am following this thread with great interest.
Yes I want to use the default guages that come with the 737ngx but looking at the various at the CPflight website and their MCP/EFIS require drivers from flightsimlabs and checking their website it is not clear if the driver are now or in the future compatable with 737ngx!I would prefer to find a MCP/EFIS that is compatable with 737NGX without having to purchase more drivers or have compatability issues from the off.

Just got my yoke,(about $300 US with shipping), from Roberto Soriano,He does great work.It bolted right on to my real Boeing, 90 degree assembly, that I got from E bay for 35 dollars.I used 3 inch exhaust tubing for the down tube. ($40 )And manufactured the pivot,($ 50)I received a Leo Bodnar BU0836 ($44)card,to go with 2 hall effect pots. This project should be cheaper than getting one off the web.I got the clipboard from a friend.

Just a few questions, can the seperate programs like MCP, CDU etc.. be run on other netwoked computers or must they all be on the same one?the ivar website you got the url?I have had loads of contact with various people giving the vurtues of iFly and Project Magenta, just need to get information on using PMDG for my Simpit, so I can make a more informed choice.Any other info why people thing the 737NGX is a good or bad platform to build a simpit around would be gratefully accepted.CheersChris Edwards

My decision to build a simpit with the NGX is quite smple. Pretty much all the systems are modeled. It flies just like the real deal and in my opinion the best add-on out there today.

What I also like about using the NGX gauges is that if I make a mod in the config of the aircaft EG: changing to analog backup instruments, the change will also be reflected in my pit. I'm gonna be starting the build right after the holidays. Same with the PFD's etc.

This is what I have set up with the NGX. Works like a charm! There are a few choices out there to use with your sim pit but nothing is quite as good as the NGX.300449_10150348747600916_507550915_8580878_1970617658_n.jpgGreg Keath
Hi Greg!I also have got such a simpit like you, but only with Captain`s site. The next addition I am thinking of is a gear lever. Where did you get yours from and have you got some tips for me?CheersDavid
The PM software programs are on different PC's and neworked using FSUIPC and WIDECLIENT.FSX is considered the server and the rest clients. It is simple to set up.Ivars's website is on his signature pic !
Thanks for that, I have been given the wrong information by someone who said that all instruments would have to be run on the same PC and there would have a major performance hit!I am new to all this and obviously want to ensure that I do the correct research, before embarking on the simpit build it's self.I have read many reviews on the software but not much for the cockpit/simpit builder point of view just runing the VC.From what I have read there seems nothing that can touch the 737NGX'x Flight Model and therefore I am interested in building something around this piece of software.I have found Ivar's website but it is being re-built after an hack attempt, but have bookmark it for future reference.Do you know any other website I could use for research into 737NGX simpits or reviews etc...Help always gratefully acceptedCheersChris

Hi guys,A few more questions:I already have a NVidia GTX 450 1.5Ghz with 2 digital outputs. On that card I will have 2 widescreen monitors. One for the captain side and one for the Co-pilot.I need to add another card with 3 outputs. One for the center display, one for the pedestal display and one for my projector which will display the scenery. My questions are:What card can I use for the 3 digital outputs? Do both cards need to be the same? I'm confused about the video card configuration. Can anyone help?ps: I would like to run everything off of one computer (see specs below) if possible. I will also be using a laptop for my EFB.Thanks

The Matrox 3H2Go will give you 3 outputs from just 1 GPU output. That is what most sim builders use.Fred.

Thanks Fred but I'll still be missing one more output. I will use the 3H2GO for my projectors in the future but will be starting with one only for the scenery. Thanks

Hi Guys,I always flew on a single screen with just my saitek yoke, but the NGX is so wonderful that I started (slowly) to start building up a cokpit. I bought the saitek radio panel and ordered the Christmas offer from Opencockpit (MCP+EFIS). So sorry if the questions I ask are stupid, keep in mind I'm a complete noob in this topic...I would like to have the PFD/MFD on a second monitor. My problem is that I would like to keep FS in windowed mode (better FPS, access to EFB or AS2012, possible 3rd monitor later). When I undock the PFD and MFD, I have a huge FPS drop (looked over the net, I seem to not be the only one, and the proposed solutions don't work...) and there's that horrible Windows frame visible. When I go full screen, I can have them on the second screen and it's beautiful, but I have less FPS and alt-tabbing between create issues with FSX (black screen). So my question is: is there a way to have the PFD/MFD displayed on the second monitor without undocking the panels? Does a third party software for exemple allow this? Thanks a lot for your answers, and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!Fabrice Lambert

No Sdk means your options with PMDG and pit building will be limited, no external gauge programs will fully integrate with it. You are forced to undock the gauges and yes you will have a significant fps drop. It really is a great mouse/keyboard plane to fly, but probably the worst to try and build a pit off of.

I too am investigating the build of a 73ng simpit. As stated by ohsrirus the pmdg 737ngxis at the moment the worst choice for building your pit. However with the (imminent?) release of the sdk things might improve and given all the interest of customers for a cockpit build PMDG might in the future also (like IFly) decide to facilitate this with their product.MIND YOU: i have no info on PMDG's plans and can only guess what might happen but no guarantees here. One thing you can do now already regarding your wish for more screens from one pc is invest in ATI eyefinity setup. Many people will state NVDIA (who btw have a multi monitor solution also) is the way to go but i am running a 3 screen (5760 x 1080) monitor setup for fsx (windowed) with a 4th screen for addiitonal stuff (fsc/asx2012/etc).See my hardware setup below and even at EHAM (aerosoft scenery) i am getting 12-15 fps with this setup and 40-50 fps in the air.Putting FSX in full screen will gain me on average an additional 2-4 fps btw and given that i am investigating cockpit setup's i am currently moving the additional stuff to another pc in my network (fsc/efb/asx2012 etc.)One last remark that was made to me. If in the end you have a cockpit with all switches/display's etc. What good does the visual model of the pmdg do? and if the visuals are no longer used than what difference does the flight model make (now here is where i, although no real life 737 pilot, decided that the flight model of pmdg is also more real so this is why i stick with pmdg for the moment). However one could argue that others have a realistic flightmodel also. But this is a personal choice we all make ourselves.Good luck in deciding
