December 11, 201114 yr I only fly FSX now but for a very long time had both FSX and FS9 on my machine. After my new build I did not install FS9 again. For those still using FS9, yes you may be missing the PMDG NG and the upcoming T7 but there are so many addons you have for FS9 that are not available for FSX I can't imagine you would need more. A few example that I miss in FSX - Dreamfleet 727, Read for Pushback 747-200, Flight1 ATR..... and I could go on and on. Great Sim and hopefully Flight will be a replacement that everyone ports over to eventually and we can all move forward on one unified platform. Mark CYYZ
December 11, 201114 yr hopefully Flight will be a replacement that everyone ports over to eventually and we can all move forward on one unified platform.I've all but wrote Flight off seeing there's little real news on it and nothing but Hawaii screenshots. When Flight is released I'll make my decision about what I'm moving over to. FS9 is far from dead especially if all Flight offers is Hawaii. The only two real options on the market will be FS9 and FSX for civilian simulators. XPlane 11 may offer competition but FS9 and FSX will be around for some time. FSX still hasn't reached the point where most feel it's a worthy successor to FS9. We still need a few more processor models (versions) to hit the market before that happens... December 11, 201114 yr Well I've got both FS9 & FSX installed. In fact I got FS9 after FSX when I realised that there were vastly more add-ons, both freebie and payware, for FS9. I'm a big fan of vintage planes, so the fact that the latest jetliners won't be happening in FS9 isn't a worry. As to my rig, FSX runs OK without having to set sliders too low (despite only having a single core CPU, though being 3GHz helps), but not as smoothly as FS9, so I'll certainly be flying the sim for a good while yet. What I mostly miss in FS9 are the airport animations (moving jetways etc.) in FSX, but that's more than made up for by the fact that I can install the most complex & elaborate airport add-ons in FS9 without killing the frame-rate.I suspect Flight will require a total hardware upgrade, sadly.
December 11, 201114 yr What I mostly miss in FS9 are the airport animations (moving jetways etc.)But this depends only on what addon airports you are using. Many of them, for instance those offered by Aerosoft, FSDT or UK200, have many apron vehicles moving around plus even traffic outside of the aerodrome. And, of course, AES by Oliver Pabst offers a lot of animations (including moving jetways) for many airpoirts (including more than 100 for free!).
December 12, 201114 yr ... you know what the similarity between MD11s and FS9 is?they are about to extinct.Does that mean that at some specific date in the future FS9 and the PMDG MD-11 will automatically disappear from my computer HD? Wow, I didn't realise that. I thought that I could keep using them for as long as I can run my current comp with Win XP. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

December 12, 201114 yr The only thing that has me drooling about FSX is ORBX... Other than that FS9 is just fine... I'm still running a Conroe - so no ORBX for me...:)Regards,Scott

December 12, 201114 yr Commercial Member I still have a sentimental feel for good ol' FS9. I have it sitting on it's own drive just waiting for me to jump in on it when the urge arises. But after installing FSX about a year ago I use it less and less. I always said I would keep both and use both but I learned is maintaining two systems is a lot of work. So my FS9 is slowly fading away... slowly f di ng aw y.... sl w y f d ng a y..... sl y f w y.... December 12, 201114 yr I still love FS9 with it's 2D panels. It will remain my airline sim of choice as It is like an old sweater. But for VFR flight in a Cessna I hop on over to FSX.EZDOK and a Carenado 185 is hard to beat in FS9.
