L nav won't turn on

I can't get my l nav turn on can someone run me through the process of getting it to work. Also HDG won't turn off .

Do you have a route entered? No discontinuities? Executed? Have you tried following the tutorial once or twice?

I've gone through the tutorial a few times it will only let me enter a route if do it through the legs page. I find this very strange.
