December 13, 201114 yr I'm new to all of this and because of current hardware limitations I am looking to buy FS9.If I went to Amazon and bought a used/previously owned copy of FS9, would I be able to download any updates that might be available? I don't know what kind of copy registration issues there are, if any.THANKS IN ADVANCE! The way I see it, you can either work for a living or you can fly airplanes. December 13, 201114 yr Hi olkev, and welcome. No problem with buying a used copy. As Jim says, there is only one update (9.0 to 9.1) BUT check your copy before you try to install the update patch: more recent sets were already patched to the latest version, so if yours is one of these, you won't need to apply the patch. Check by going to Help/About Mictrosoft Flight Simulator from the in-sim menu; if it says 9.1, you already have the latest version.;)
December 13, 201114 yr Check your PM Inbox. It is no longer on the MS sight.I'm not sure why you say that:http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=9727John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
December 13, 201114 yr I did a search on the MS download site and it turned up an invalid link. I did a yahoo search amd the same thing happened. It did turn up a link (I checked the download for viruses, etc.,) from a third party site and notified the OP.On the MS download site with a Bing search try finding the FS9 SDK. I came up negative. I then used Yahoo and it linked to a knowledge base article which linked to the download on an MS site. I'm not sure why you say that:http://www.microsoft...lang=en&id=9727John
December 17, 201114 yr Author I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x32 SP1, Athlon 64x2 5000+ Dual Core Processor @ 2.6mHz, 2GB of RAM, nVidia onboard GeForce 6150 nForce 450 video card.I have been considering a change to x64. I can put up to 8gb of RAM on the machine. As I understand it, x32 is limited to using 4GB of RAM but the x64 is not. I know I need a decent graphics card but I am just concerned at this point on the OS.Is moving from x32 to x64 going to be that big of a boost given the hardware involved?Any thoughts?THANKS IN ADVANCE! If you are having out of memory issues, and patch the FS9.exe to be large address aware (so it can use 4Gb), then yes - it will make a huge difference. As far as 6 or 8Gb ram goes, 6 is the sweet spot for Win7 - if you do graphic processing or like lots of apps open then 8 will enhance that. Do not expect greatly enhanced performance from FS however, other than saying goodby to memory issues - it's processor bound.DJ
