Plan-G question

No, not the Medicare Supplement . Does plan-G (moving map/flight planner) show ai aircraft on the map as well? Im currently using flightsim commander on a second monitor while using FSX. Ive been hearing good things about Plan G. Anyone use both? which would you recommend.Im not at my PC right now, otherwise Id just download it and try it myself.Rob

I've had a bit of a go at PlanG- I find it harder to use than Commander which like a lot.- making flight plans in particular.

I like plan-G as a moving map in that respect it is light years ahead of FSC but lack of Navigraph support is a limitation when you import flightplans that were prepared with apps that do support navigraph (you can end up with some very bizarre tracks) - but as a freeware offering you can'y really complain too much.Bruce

Can Plan-g be brought up (moving map) while in FSX, or do you have to alt tab between them like I am now?

I use both FSCommander and Plan-G. Plan-G for VFR and it does that very well. FSC for IFR because it has navigraph and some other features. I do believe that Plan-G was primarily designed around VFR, and it does have all the same nav data that your flight simulator has, no SIDs or STARs of course. I highly recommned you run Plan-G on a separate computer with WideFS.

That is very much a personal preference. I find that FSC runs much better on my second machine than PLAN-G, even running with Google Earth up and the terrain overlay showing on that. Although it would be much better if FSC could show the terrain without going into Google Earth !!G

Its not light yrs ahead of FSC since it doesn't use RW navdata. I quit using FS flight planning yrs ago. I'll stay with FSC.

IIt is when it comes to a moving map display - FSC is very much old school in that respect with very low detail terrain display. But I agree not on other aspects such as no Navigraph support. I usually flightplan in FSC but use Plan-G for a moving map.Bruce
