February 9, 200422 yr Hi all, I finally downloaded the much anticipated PMDG 1900 express yesterday. However, after much excitement initially, I was once again disappointed by the lack of realistic sound representation, specifically when adjusting the props from cruise setting to full rpm on final, and when reducing from full rpm to climb rpm after take-off. Because turboprops are the main form of air transport around our islands, I am quite familiar with the sound change when the props are adjusted (and it is quite a beautiful sound at that). I realise that this is a limitation with how microsoft handles turboprops, but I think it's high time we get a realistic turboprop sound representation. (I think that the Dash 8 from fanda is the closest turboprop sound to date). When the torque is reduced on final, it almost sounds as if you are at idle power, instead of the nice heavy groan that results from advancing the props to full rpm. Maybe, just maybe they will get it right in another two years.J.C. (MYNN)

February 9, 200422 yr J.C.There's a turboprop sound pack in the file library by Leon Medado that's supposed to be very realistic. It models the prop sound independantly from the turbine sound. Just do a search using his name. I havn't heard it yet but plan on installing it tonight. There's a second download you'll want to get with it, see the readme.David

February 11, 200422 yr Yes it works just like a real turboprop. The rpms determine the sound level not the torque settings. Very realistic sounds too. I love the feather sound while running on the ground. I feel like I am on the line ! I absolutly love it, the only downfall I think is that it could be made a little bit louder in the cockpit. February 11, 200422 yr Actually it's these two files:lm_turbopropsndenhpck_2.zip This is a FS2002 pack that must be installed first (in FS9).lm_turbopropsndenhpck_25aup.zip FS9 pack that installs second.Just search for Leon Medado. They install to the King Air 350. For use with other turboprop a/c like the B1900D it would probably be simplest to alias to the King Air. I just installed them tonight and they sound great! He also has sound packs for other planes, like the Moony Bravo and Beach Barron.David

February 11, 200422 yr JimThe easiest way to see how its done is look in the sound directory and the sound.cfg file in that directory for the default 737 and 747.In the directory for the 737 you'll find lots of wave files and sound.cfg will control how they are used. In the sound directory for the 747 you'll find no wave files, just sound.cfg, and if you open it (with notepad) all it does is alias to the 737. It's simple once you look at how it's done.David

February 11, 200422 yr The relative softness of the sound in the cockpit is intentional since the King Air 350 features an active noise reduction system, although some added degree of artistic license has been applied :-) I really wanted "a smooth, comfortable sound", one that I could fly with for hours without having to reduce the volume of my speakers. I also wanted to differentiate it from the Caravan's sounds, which I gave a whiney sort of character.I believe the active noise reduction system is available as an aftermarket add-on for the 1900D, so I guess you could imagine that PMDG's Beech has it installed. You might as well also keep in mind that I didn't really design the sound package for use in the 1900D, which from seems to have a heavier growl to it's sound.Just to set it straight, for the King Air sounds only, you'll need these two files:lm_turbopropsndenhpck_25kaup.zip (King Air upgrade)Then:lm_turbopropsndenhpck_27p.zip (Latest Patch)For the Caravan you'll need these two:im_turbopropsndenhpck_2.zip (The FS2002 version)Then:lm_turbopropsndenhpck_27p.zip (Latest Patch)If enough people still can't figure that out, I could be persuaded to upload an all-in-one version for each aircraft. The use of Prop RPM to control the prop sound can be applied to any set of turboprop sounds through a few modifications to the Sound.cfg (Don't need to edit the wavs.) I actually have one for Flight1's Piper Meridian, though I haven't bothered to contemplate on the legalities of releasing this to the public.
