FPS Limiter Won't "Settle" at Set FPS

Recommended Posts

I now have FPS Limiter set to 30 fps and running with FSX. The problem is it won't hold at 30 fps. On startup it shows large green letters and numbers "New FPS: 30" on the FSX startup menu but when I check it in FSX it's jumping from 40 down to 30 and everything inbetween. FSX slider is set to unlimited. Shouldn't it hold fairly close to 30? Thanks. Tom

Mine also did this - but sometimes it would stay at 30... I've since dumped the limiter altogether, as she will hold a steady 30 all the time without it.I think it would probably work as it's intended to with the slower procs - perhaps below 4 gig, but with the high-end stuff.... naah, it makes no difference and just adds an extra headache.

Does this mean that fps counter in FSX does not display correct values and thus can't be trusted?

Nope...Just means the FPS Limiter does NOT limit it to EXACTLY 30....Do a search and you can read alot on the subject. When I installed it years ago,I remember it was primarily(?) to help stop stutters..Been a big improvement for me,but I have not been concerned with the FPS...Your milage may vary...

Thanks for the help, guys. I used to use the FSX limiter alone and you are right, it held a nice, steady 30. I ran Bojote's tweaker and it recommended I get the FPS Limiter so I did. I also had read that the limiter was supposed to give smoother performance and somewhat better fps. I will take your advice and go back to the FSX slider. Tom
