Hi everyone,looking for a CPU for my new setup. The Intel Core i7 990X (3,46GHz) seems to rank very high in most ratings, and I assume it would work well in FSX. Should I go for it? I should probably mention that I do not want to overclock by any means.Thanks in advance for your advice.

Defenetly avoid 1366 at all costs. if you want to go super extreme and your budget allows, go for the i7 3960x.BUT, FSX shows little to no improvement from the new Sandybridge-e(3960x) from the regular Sandybridge chips.I'd reccomend that you get a 2600k or 2500k.

FSX can't take advantage of them.... Less cores at high clock speed is what he needs.

It can use the two extra cores for texture load and may help smoothness in heavy areas. but i agree not worth the cost in fsx.

Barely any difference. The sandybridge lineup is the best way to go if you don't have to wait for Ivy Bridge.
