Is 4.2 the limit for my I5-2500k?

Dez --Yes, They are, no question, the go-to-guys here. When I first visit these forums daily I scan for their posts. Can't say that I understand it all, but I take what they say as fact. Right now, after reading Dario's OCing procedure above I really hesitate to continue. I may just leave mine at 4.2 as it seems happy and cool with no untoward effects apparent in Prime95.I don't run much beyond a couple Cpt. Sim ac, FS Genisis mesh and a couple Fly Tampa airports, so maybe I don't need more than 4.2 anyway. After I bought this new box I didn't bother installing REX, UTX, GEX with all the patches and upgrades, and I really don't miss them. I'll look at Word Not Allowed's suggestion in a bit and see if I have the nerve to proceed. Getting cold feet at the moment!Bruce

I would never run extreme llc on multi 48 or above, depending where your vcore is at 48x.As dario said, it can go higher than set. That is why i prefer offset and c1e, which in combo drops both vcore and multi! But llc has been tested and beaten to death on forums and there is no definitive answer whats better. I only prefer not going "extreme" if not necessarily needed.
I run my LLC on Ultra High. I assume this is fine especially if temps are okay and my CPU voltage is @ 1.38. Correct?
BruceKosta ,Dazz ,Stephen, they are the best person to take advice.
Very true.We are quite lucky to have these geniuses in the forum with us. Without you guys, I don't think I'd have my new setup. :D

Well, Gents, I give up! Tried Word Not Allowed's suggestion and I just couldn't get it done. It kept reverting to the stock 3.3. I went back to the auto oc @4.2. I guess I just don't pack the right gear! Thanks for all the input though.Bruce

Why LLC at all? What is the reason behind it for you? As I didn't find any useful reasons on any forum. Offset it to whatever it needs and LLC off... working fine. Mine is idling between 1.19 and 1.25. Load P95, and it flies to 1.46. LLC is off. Both things are OK though, yours and mine.

Wow, unbelievable that you have such problems. It's very unusual. Did you try resetting the BIOS? Load all defaults, rebooting? It would be quite a performance boost if you would go from 4.2 to 4.8.
My chip needs LLC. I couldn't get to 5Ghz @ 1.39v without it.
OK, might be chip dependant. I tested 3 different 2600K chips on the same mobo, and none needed LLC on. Also tested 3 different mobos (two were the same model though).

Word Not Allowed -No doubt the problem is operator ignorance. I'll look at resetting the bios (?) and resetting defaults.Bruce

Try setting "AI Overclock Tuner" to "Manual", then set the Turbo ratio "By all cores" to 45 or something
I'll look at resetting the bios (?)
Turn off, flip the switch on the back of PSU, pull the cable, set jumper to CMOS reset, wait 10 seconds, put in the cable, flip the switch, press the turn on button and go directly to BIOS and set everything as needed - but don't OC yet, just set XMP. Save and Exit, then enter again and then start OCing. If that doesn't work, then either: your hardware is bogged or you are doing something wrong on OCing.
One day Im planning a open loop system, similiar to Word Not Allowed.s, for cooling. They are considerably better. Just $$$$$$$$$$$
It's basically one time investment. Of course from time to time you have to replace some parts, but so you have to with air cooling too.
Been looking into it. looks like around 250.00.
That's cheap for custom watercooling set. I paid my starting set €600. That included all connectors, pipes, cpu, gpu and double-hdd cooler, incl. pump and a hugeass radiator (can fit up to 9x 120mm fans, i have "only" 5, but low-rotation, i think they are on 5v).
LOL. 300.00 for just the CPU is what I will finally looking at. I seen you have a dual radiator. I already have a system for the GPU. Was considering combining. As with race engines, yhr more capacity the better heat transfer. Speaking of race engines I compare them to OC'ing CPU's. If your going for high performance your going to pay with longevity!
300 only for a CPU loop is somewhat realistic. But I don't have a double radi... it's a 3x3 120mm fans radi. Basically sizewise around 370x370cm. This is the product, but not my pic: IMAGE_114.jpg And my fans are on the inside so it looks way neater than that.

I tried turning the LLC on auto but with the current clock it wasn't stable at all. LLC is back up and everything is fine. Does using it really affect the processor in bad way?

In this forum(link below), which I have read before, it states---"Over a long test and tune cycle, ASUS has developed a class leading bios with superior auto overclocking. This superior performance translates to overclocking in two ways, manually or automatically via the use of our Auto Tuning application. Keeping in mind that most retail K series parts will be sub 50 multi capable, our Auto Tuning application has been designed to Auto Tune up to a range of 50 should the CPU support it. In effect reaching the absolute maximum clock a user can reach manually. Additionally Auto Tuning can serve as a good option for seeing the potential in the CPU and max multiplier it may have before fine tuning the system."Since my auto tune takes me to 4.2 I will assume that 4.2 is pretty close to the *wall* for my cpu. Therefore, I will accept that and gladly forgo any further attempt at overclocking beyond 4.2. (A perfect excuse for a cop-out)http://hardforum.com...d.php?t=1578110Thank you all for your time and suggestions.Bruce
