Troubleshooting assistance needed. Black screen after a few weeks away from FSX

Recommended Posts

I've been hooked on another game for several weeks and took some time off from FSX. It was running fine a few weeks ago. Now I get a black preview window and black when I click fly, although I can hear the sim running. The only significant change I've made is upgrading the drivers to 290.53. I have not tried rolling back the drivers because other users seem to be using them with no problem.I've tried deleting fsx.cfg, I've tried re-applying the profile with the most up to date version of Nvidia Inspector, and I've tried setting the graphics manually through the card and not inspector. My specs arecore 2 duo 3.0 oc 3.8Nvidia GTX 550ti + GTS 240 dedicated to PhysxWin 7 64 bit4gb ramPMDG NGX and ASE are my only two currently installed add ons.Any assistance is appreciated.

Chris - if its any help, I've experienced black screens (and can hear FSX running) with the ENB series files installed in FSX.

Chris--actually, lots of people are having trouble with the 290.xx betas in FSX. I recommend you try the 285.62 WHQL drivers.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. Rolling them back would mean degraded performance with my newer programs. I suppose if it is a driver issue, I'll just be patient and hope Nvidia get's it resolved. I'll post over there and see if I can get any input. Thanks again.

I've tried rolling back my driver to the official release version and the black screens remain. Any other suggestions, if it's not the driver? I hesitate to reinstall FSX just yet if it's fixable.

If you haven't already, I'd try a clean install of the WHQL driver...also, are your DirectX drivers updated? It also might be worth a line-by-line scrub of the FSX profile nvidiainspector settings. I noted that the "override application settings" I was using stopped working with the WHQL driver and latest version of nvidiainspector.
