The clouds in FSX look great from the distance. ORBX scenery looks great from high up but the illusion falls apart when you get close up.2011-12-6_17-16-17-541.jpg2011-12-8_16-42-16-790.jpg2011-12-6_20-2-51-871.jpg
LOL....there is no illusion in XP10 'plausible world'....its dross! It looks like dross from up high AND down low.

Did you notice the cartoon looking landmarks ? What about the photo looking real cars painted on the ground ?
Is that the orbx city I am looking at? Do cars painted on the ground not appear in the photoscenery sold for xplane?

No, we would just like to see some of are favorite FSX developers port over to XPX !FSX is a cash cow for FSX developers, so I don't blame them for not wanting to port over. They have vested interested in the status quo. How much have we spent trying to make FSX look nice ? Ive spent over 1000.

To qoute John Venema (orbx)"X-Plane is full of warts"Thats what one dev thinks about x-plane....and a big one at that!

Again, if you reverse engineer the product in your own home for your own interest and DO NOT MAKE IT PUBLICALLY AVAILABLE.....who will know or even care?
I didn't know that. So there would be no need to get the Side-by-Side-License from Orbx because I would be using it only on my own system and not planning to make it available publicly?

What? The orbx SBSL is so you can actually make your current consumer FTX product (installed in FSX) work in P3D. It has nothing to do with the commercial licence. That would be seperate as JV already mentioned.

Like said "status quo" He is in only interested in your bank account ! That was proven in his annual sale.

So FSX scenery isn't compatible with Prepar3D? What's the point?

Mike Mann

Neither are LM.....its conjecture on your part based on some strange idea that you know better than the lawyers at Lockheed Martin!
Let's put it this way: it's more likely to happen to Prepar3D than it is X-Plane.
There are plenty of posts from John Nicol (P3D lead) right here on Avsim encouraging new users to P3D. Do you really think LM would allow him to do that if there was the smallest threat of legal action from MS?
For now. But things will change and quick if Microsoft sees Prepar3D as a threat to Flight, and with the number of people saying, "Screw Flight, I'm getting Prepar3D!" that's probably going to happen sooner than later.

You have a point there......Bottom line though, X-Plane is doomed to stay where it is if nobody a) buys it or :( develops for it.

How much you have to invest to XPX to get at least a believable US continet and major urban areas right? Or A2A quality warbirds? This is really important for me to decide which sim I'm going to use after FSX.

Based on what MS have done with Flight and the target audience, I doubt they care that a few 1000 FSX users suddenly go out and get P3D licences. p3D clearly does NOT appeal to the MS demographic for the Flight product. You dont have to be a genius to figure that one out.

With rex flying with a lot of cloud about doesnt hit my frames and looks supurb. xplane looks supurb too but the method has a severe frame rate hit.
Not true. The cloud rendering in XP10 is very efficient and can be tuned to give you minimal performance loss without sacrificing visual quality.

There is some tweaking to be done (mainly in the installer I think) but clearly Orbx, FSDT and the like aren't having an major issues.
