I would pay 500$ for a licence, I just wish I could have it charged 10 or 25$ a month until its paid off, if my wife saw a 500$ charge for a flight simulator I would end up buried in the back yard :(

My wife can't legally use Prepar3D either!
What exactly would you be afraid of? You haven't pirated anything. You purchased a licence and obtained the software legally. Who do you think ACTUALLY cares how you use it in your home?Do you really think LM or MS are going to knock on your door asking to see your 'commercial application'? Heck you aren't even making money by using the software. Nobody will care!
She would if she were a "student" at your hypothetical flight training school!
+1Even better!

So go for the $10/month subscription. That gives you over 4 years use before you hit the $500 and no doubt will save you money because you have not needed to pay for upgrades through various revisions.
I didn't say it was a dead platform, I said it represents a shrinking market, which is true. Sales have long since slowed to a trickle, and the older it gets, the more people will move on to other products or drop out of the flight sim hobby entirely. It's certainly not "end of life", but that time is definitely approaching. And when FSX does become a dead platform will be right around the time that X-Plane 10 will be in full stride.
I have tested XPX demo and it still resides in my HD, but as it is I'm not ready to make the jump. I may be spoiled with Aerosoft, ORBX, A2A, MyTraffic X, Pacific Island Sim, Lionheart, Warbirdsim, Flight1 and many other devs who have pushed FSX to year 201x. Until I know, that I can get all these to XPX, I'm not ready to jump. As XPX is right now, it doesn't seem to be in immediate future. I'm more looking towards P3D right now.Main gripe for me with XPX is lackluster urban envoronment and poor AI and unless I'm not getting hundreds of AI aircraft without sacrificing too much performance, XPX is not for me ever, although I mostly fly GA and bush, traffic is important for me to create real world illusion in larger airports. Terrible UI in XPX is just nuisance, and not important, but my god I hate UI in XPX. It is bollocks no matter how hard someone tries to justify it.I also find default XPX too cartoonish, but I know that opinions are also opposite, so that's just me. Volumetric clouds and nightlighting are terrific in XPX but they aren't enough for me. Souped up FSX >>>>> default XPX and unless I know that I can get A2A's near perfect warbirds (I have now just Spitfire, but it really opened my eyes) or similar to XPX and quality scenery like ORBX or PIS, I can't even consider changing platform.XPX is not bad base for a sim. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I wish all the best for Laminar team and I'm surely following the progress, but if P3D isn't going to be my FSX replacement, its probably another few years to the jump. FSX won't die in my HD very suddenly.

So if I can easily justify ignoring the "only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment." provision, is it equally valid to ignore the one about "Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise reduce the Software to a human-readable form."?Not that I would (in fact I don't even have the ability of performing such a feat), but I'm just asking. How far is one able to justify breaking an EULA?

I don't know. Why don't you ask Lockheed boys?

Yes, its important to remember that the $499 only gets you a licence for the current major version and point releases. (1.1, 1.2 etc)Version 1.x to version 2.0 would require an upgrade fee.The $10 per month option always gives you access to the newest version.

XPX is the future! So I won't be buying anymore ORBX ADD-ONS, so you can take that to the bank JV !

Again, if you reverse engineer the product in your own home for your own interest and DO NOT MAKE IT PUBLICALLY AVAILABLE.....who will know or even care?I have made edits to installed addon aircraft and scenery in many instances, certainly violating the EULA, but I have not made said edits available to the community or the public so who will ever know or even care?

Im going to look into this a bit more, are you saying if I purchase a full licence that I have to pay for any updates or new versions, but with a subscription all new versions will be available for free? I have not really looked into p3d yet so I really have no clue.

You've never used an airport tool to modify a default airport? Some tools even leave behind the XML, if you so choose.

Thanks for that, anyone know about how much $ it would possibly cost for an upgrade, ballpark

Yes, that's the way it goes. With full licence you have to pay at least something for coming major updates. I'm going to start developing soon also. IMO Prepar3D has the possibility to continue FS legacy, truly. The more it gets us, the more it draws attention of 3rd party devs.
Why? The EULA is a contract for the end user to adhere to, why does LM need to go out of it's way to ensure it is adhered to?
Because MS may put pressure on LM and invoke the terms of the MS/LM agreement - possibly claiming LM has breached it?
