What would Bruce Artwick think of all this...

I would be interested to know what the man who started all this back in the 70's would make of the huge backward step that M$ has made...

Thanks Mat -|- Win 11 Pro, 14900K, Asus Strix Z790, 64Gb Corsair Vengeance, MSI 5090 - Hardware: MFG, Thrustmaster, Logitch, Honeycomb, Virpil, WinWing & Tobii. P3D v5 Pro, XP12, MSFS2020 & 2024 and way too many add-ons to mention! Simming since '95. Flying since '98.

Actually if I only had the choice of the 2 I'd go back to Sublogic Flight Simulator.

I suspect he'd say, "That's it, I'm buying X-Plane 10!"But seriously, guys like this tend to be a bit more philosophical about these things. I suspect he'd applaud Microsoft's efforts to make a flight simulator that is more accessible to the average consumer.

Thats not their goal, their goal is to make as much money as they can which is fine but it is a slightly different philosophy I think.

He being a former business owner, I doubt he would begrudge Microsoft's ultimate goal of turning a profit.

I think I am depressed after playing the beta for 45 minutes. I spend about 20 of that setting up the controls the way I wanted it, but the next 25 minutes, I can never get back...

I guess Bruce is still surprised the franchise lasted for as long as it did... All god things must die!

In FS5.x (BAO times) the gauges were encrypted, the BGL scenery format was not documented, even the planes were encrypted. Scenery was available I think from BAO only (remember "scenery disks" (diskettes)), except a few attempts that were made based on reverse engineering of the BGL format. One of the better ones that I can remember was Hongkong from "Pilots". So FS opened up after that and now it is closing up again.

Yes I bought those scenery disks for my commodore. Back in 84 or so they were almost 40 dollars a pop.
