What I think about it all.

Recommended Posts

Hi AllFrom what I have seen so far from what has been posted, pictures and videos, official and non official is that Flight seems to be like the airplane version of Take on Helicopters or Test Drive Unlimited 2 from Atari where you got to do missions and drive cars around Hawaii or the island of Ibiza and pay for DLC content, more cars etc and a casino addon etc etc. Take on Helicopters from what I have seen has areas you can fly around with and do missions and tasks with so in a way its not really that much different to Flight. Im sure Flight will have helicopters too, would be silly for it not too.Theres also a lovely hint of Flight Unlimited in here too, yes for us that remember those games it consisted of an area, San Francisco in F U 2 and Seattle in F U 3 which you flew around in with mostly GA planes and had a great time. Flight reminds me of that, sure theres the arcadey element where you go around and fly through hoops etc but FSX had that too and there also seems to be a freedom mode so to speak where you fly around and do your own thing. All I keep reading on the forums at the moment is doom and glooom about Flight etc, but to be honest what is the problem?? Theres still FSX and FS9 and Xplane and Prepar3D and lots more sims to explore. Flight is a free download so when it comes out, go and try it, it might not be your cup of tea but at least you can try and give it a go.I think in a way its a good thing that 3rd Parties might or might not participate in creating addons for Flight. Look at it this way, companies like Orbx and UK2000 etc will not have to go through the process of having to upgrade sceneries which takes their own staff and developers away from projects they might have been working on for FSX. I remember when FSX came out and there was lots of waiting for sceneries to be upgraded, then a service pack would come out for FSX which would then cause a problem then SP2 came out and Acceleration and there were then more issues. At least now they can just carry on, they have their roadmaps of what needs doing, they know the limitations and the bugs that FSX for example has in it and so they can carry on bringing out products which have matured over the years since the sim came out and dont have to worry about what new bugs there are in Flight or what limitations there might be. I feel that theres still an awful lot of potential in the FSX game engine anyway as some developers seems to prove by always bringing out things in their products that at some point you wouldnt have thought that FSX could have done. Of course its also good that Lockheed are working away in the background and carrying on with the existing code for FSX and improving it so that all the developers that want to stay with FSX etc have another platform now which is very compatible so that there products can be moved and put onto this new platform without much problem. Its all good, for me and others who have spent alot of hard earned buying products which will keep their shelf life for a long time. When Flight is released I will be giving it a spin so to speak. I am sure its not half as bad as what I am reading about here, maybe I am just easier to please, coming from when sims consisted of a few colours and ran at frames per minutes rather than frames per second.Craig

I'm in your camp ckukmale, We need another flight engine and I feel like Flight will evolve into something that the Hard Core crowd will grow to love.

I doubt that Hard Core crowd will ever like flying game that allows no third party addons at all. It has no future, and it even uses same engine that FSX does. FSX has everything that Flight could offer to simulator enthusiasts and way more.At least I personally see no need to buy any addon plane or scenery for flight when I can buy better quality ones for FSX from third party. Idk if Flight even includes ATC?

If I were you I would go ahead a DRASTICALLY lower your expectations. The NDA will be lifted shortly and those of you holding out hope better brace yourselves for what is to come. If you think that this is just naysayer hype like any other release of Flight Sim just wait a few weeks....

The KEY is 3rd party embrace and content - freeware and payware.Unless M$ comes up with a better offer, 3rd party developers will stay with FSX and/or look for other platforms. After THREE DECADES, M$ should understand this better than anybody else. It hasn't completely sunk in at Laminar.

The problem is that no one at MS or Laminar give two fecal matters about their only customer base. after watching these videos its clear that M$ doesn't care to listen to anyone who has stuck with the game. This game wouldn't even have lasting appeal for an arcade like game. It looks boring and very childish. Its a joke to be honest. After playing the XP10 demo, its just as bad. the airplane dont feel like airplanes at all. ITs ridiculous. Better FDEs my butt. and I like to fly in airplanes that look like their real world counterparts. Not something from a crappy sci-fi movie. The whole plausible world is a joke. Why no make the real world. If I want to go to LAX, I want to be flying over Los Angeles. Not some make believe well its almost close city look a like. the only thing that I have seen out of both simes is that XP10 got volumetric clouds right.
