Directory advise for NGX

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to have the NGX in 2 different directories. My downloaded version is in the default directory of C:\program files (86)\Microsoft Games\ etc. etc. Can I also download it into C:|FSX directory as it states in the PMDG Introduction section of the software download. I just discovered this directory after reading it in the download but the software was already positioned in the default directory.Regards, jen noulet

Dont think you can since it all depends on where you have installed fsx is where you install the ngx Edited by pete_auau

You shall have it where you have your FSX.You could have FSX in both dir, but I wouldn´t recommend it.Better then to uninstall FSX from your dir and then Install everything in C:FSX/ Leffe

Think there be some conflict happeneing there if you install it in the 2 dir, but be interesting to see if it would work maybe fsx would run twice as fast :)

It would work but as I said ....."Wouldn´t recommend it"....what would be the point of doing it?For your info it´s the FSX.exe that decides in which folder those FS subfolders are located. So if you start the one in C:FSX....it uses all subfolders in that dir.If you start the one in C:program files (86)Microsoft Games etc.... it uses all it´s subfolders in that dir.I would guess, he dosen´t start both at the same tiime, which wouldn´t work anyway.since it only says..."You have already startet one session"/Leffe Edited by Leffe

It's not going to improve performance, and a lot of registry information is used to define the FSX path, not like unix, where all executables are in the/bin (binary) folder. The registry information is used when installing 3rd party software so that the installer 'knows' where the fsx directory resides. If you make a copy of the fsx folder to the root drive, then youa re going to have to edit all the registry paths too,Better to do a clean install (if you are bored) and follow the KB http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx

While we are on this topic, what increase or benefits does one realize by placing the NGX in the C:FSX directory as opposed to the default directory?Regards, jen noulet
