How to Easily Restore/Guard Your FSX Configuration

Recommended Posts

Hi,I wrote a small program ‘FSX MyConfig’ to make life of us flight simmers a bit easier. As discussed in a recent PMDG 737NGX topic e.g. TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD resets (from 4096) to 1024 every time the FSX display settings are changed. This also applies for CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY and LOD_RADIUS.‘FSX MyConfig’ automatically restores your preferred parameter values as kept in the configuration file ‘fsx.cfg’. I tested it with Windows 7 and XP. The program needs not to be installed, just copy ‘FSXMyConfig.cfg’ to the ‘fsx.cfg’ folder and copy ‘FSXMyConfig.exe’ to an arbitrary folder. You can edit ‘FSXMyConfig.cfg’ just as you would edit ‘fsx.cfg’. After running the program the original ‘fsx.cfg’ file is copied to ‘fsx.cfg.bak’ and is then rewritten with the parameter values you specified in ‘FSXMyConfig.cfg’. Nothing else will be changed. You can obtain the program from: http://home.kpn.nl/n...ld/fsxmyconfig/I hope you will like the program as much as I do. :( Happy Flying.

Doesn't the little utility program Texture Max Load Editor do that same thing?

Hi Duncan,Yes TML Editor does more or less the same but only for TML. With FSX MyConfig you can automatically restore every parameter you like.I wrote the progam because I did not like copying/pasting the fsx.cfg manually and that there is alway's a risk of putting back an outdated cfg file resulting in valid changes made to the fsx.cfg by FSX or whatever add-on are lost,

I downloaded the utility but it comes up with an error. I re-read the readme and followed the instructions and even reloaded the Net Framework 4. The error says; "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Argument 'Length' must be greater or equal to zero." [After that there is a ton of items to scroll through] Sorry, Norm

Some initial problems with the program for some of you are solved now.So now you can obtain the final version of FSX MyConfig at http://home.kpn.nl/nowisgold/fsxmyconfig/

Thank you EdwardS for such a rapid response. I just downloaded the update of your program and will give it a try tonight. I do need this utility since at last count I had 8 different fsx.cfg files in a backup folder. I am continually testing this new computer and have concluded that even with an i7 2600 quad core with an nVidia 560 and 12GB ram that you can't run FSX at max sliders and not have problems especially if you have a lot of add-ons. Thanks, Norm
