Should I buy Thrustmaster Warthog for NGX

Recommended Posts

When I first got my hands on the Warthog, I was mainly flying GA, so the stick didn't feel too much out of place, however, now that 50% of my time is spent flying the NGX, I really want to get my hands on a good yoke. However, here is the anguish... IMO there is no yoke on the market that comes anywhere near the strong, well designed, product detail of the Warthog.. unless you want to buy some of the alloy Yokes that are twice the price, and more, of the Warthog! Sure you can buy a CH or Saitek yoke, but to be honest, I prefer to have my hands around the neck of a beautifully engineered alloy stick than use a plastic copy of something it's trying to emulate. No offence meant to the thousands of guys with these yokes, they are very popular, but for me it was a no brainer.Flying the NGX with a yoke, isn't that much of a deal anyway, unless of course you fly the entire flight manually and then it's not that suitable. But to be honest, as soon as you take off and kick in AP, I don't touch the controller until a couple of miles out on my final approach.
Have you thought about the VR Insight Yoke? Its ~ $280Theres also the GS Yoke 737 made by a brazillian company (reviews are hard to come by) and its ~ $400.DSC01074.jpg

Hiya, sure I haven't heard of the GS yoke, looks interesting. I'll do a search. Sure, the VR insight has a good pedigree, but from what I can tell, it has virtually no buttons on the yoke. I use Ezdok and to have more than a dozen camera views immediately at hand is something that makes the decision process more difficult! Edited by Rockliffe

I'm having such a dilemma, buy the Warthog, or get a VR Insight/PFC yoke. Either way, the fiancée will be giving me strange looks. I'm having such a hard time deciding, I think I'm just going to go ahead and buy the pedals first. And according to the reviews, the CH pedals beat the saitek, qui?

My goodness, that's a lot of money... I don't even have rudder pedals because I think 100 euro's is a lot for just two pedals... All this gear looks very interesting, but it should be cheaper. :(

Well of course it is Jeroen, but they are made of plastic and feel like toys IMHO http://flightsim.com/main/review/jetyoke.htm Edited by Rockliffe

Howard, have the same Yoke and I'm very satisfied. Upgraded from a Saitek.

Ahh, cheers Dick. So tell me, what buttons and switches are on the yoke? There looks to ba four rocker switches and a htaswitch, is that right? Are there any hidden around the back? cheers...

Out of interest...if PMDG did an Airbus would you use your Saitek yoke to fly it?
:(

Four rocker switches. two buttons on the front, one of which is the red and one black one and two on the back of the yoke on each side. There is no HAT switch.

Mmm, fewer than I thought actually. Still a great looking bit of kit though.
