Trying to make the sea look more life like in the UK, is it possible?

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, I am searching a way to make the sea textures and colours more lifelike; as the majority of my flights are done with real world weather conditions I am often disapointed by the way the sea looks, in particular over the UK.I have tried tinkering around with REX to achieve the results I am striving for but I am not having much luck, maybe I am not doing something quite right and this is why I am asking. I also have Zinertek's Ultimate Water Advanced as well for the water textures as I prefer those over REX's, this is something I have mentioned in a previous forum. But I am still trying to find the perfect, or the closest way to get the sea colours to the natural world. Here in the UK, I live close to the sea and at this time of year especially the sea is far from blue which is often what I see when I fire up FS9. What I want to see in FS9 is the sea being a more grayish colour which is how it should be, but I obviously do not want this to be replicated everywhere as if I went to the mediterranean I would expect the sea to beblue, not gray like it is in the UK!So my question is this, is it at all possible to have the sea in one country one colour and the sea somewhere else another using REX, and if so how do I do it? If it cannot be done with REX then are there any other programmes on the market that can achieve these results? Thanks for reading this and any helpMark

Have you tried "Real Environment Pro"? Their Aqua Pro Dark textures are more like the sea colours for the UK.

Hi MarkI use these and really like them. Try them and see if it helps.Photos taken off the coast of the UK. This should give you an idea what these textures look like:Link to files:http://library.avsim...tion&CatID=rootRJ

I agree North sea like Caribbean .If the texture for water in fs9 is just one file ,then I don't see why it can't be replaced by something greyer, you could simply rename the default to keep it safe then replace with the grey one, Yes it would alter ALL the worlds sea water textures ,but if your only flying in the vicinity of the UK Europe I don't see that matters. If your next flight is around Hawaii (oh dear!) then simply put the original back.I have never seen any grey looking sea textures so I would imagine doing this is more difficult than my possibly simplistic idea.AnywaysthoughtsAndyIGNORE! SimplisticLooks like multiple water texture files in my FS9 'texture ' folder.Could always fly at night ,using the 'imagination' gauge I suppose.

Thanks but the colours still look a bit too blue for the sea around the UK, especially the North sea like Andy says. When it is cold, wet and windy in England (like it is most of the time!), the sea aint blue, trust me!

Ah, no, I have not tried Real Environment Pro. That could be a possibilty. Is this a freeware programme? I cannot find it in the AVSIM library...

LOL!!FS9 still rocks here, but as the OP asks, no solution yet, and not in Flight if you ask me..

The sea in our Northern Hemisphere is mostly grey in colour, for the most of the year, and try as I might with FS 2004 REX, I have found it impossible for get that "dreary", gray effect, which discourages me from going for a paddle in the sea, at the Sea-side.... :( ...!With my "Ground Environment Pro" I can turn down the RGB "brightness" etc, to make the water look more realistic (ie: dull), but that also affects the surrounding scenery as well... :( ...!Paul...FS 2004...FS Nav..REX...GE Pro.......and a tin of "dull" paint!..... :( ...!

http://www.flightsim...wfile/1375.html you will find it here. the dark colour is far more realistic for the UK
Thanks for that, downloading that now. Before I install it though, can the water textures be used seperately? I want to keep all my other sky, cloud textures that I have with REX and don't want to overwrite them, so if the sea is a better colour, then I would probably just want the water only installed...

Does GE PRO alter the water? I am not aware of that.

Real Environment pro does alter the colour of water, not sure about GE Pro
