January 23, 201214 yr $$$ Isn't that always the answer? It costs money to have the HUD in the sim, train the crews, maintain the HUD. . .That makes sense but why did they install the HUD system for a lot of money if they don´t use it? January 23, 201214 yr That makes sense but why did they install the HUD system for a lot of money if they don´t use it?If I'm interpreting the original post correctly they were installed by the previous owner of the planes, who presumably did use them. John-Alan Pascoe
January 23, 201214 yr Really? Since when? I have a DVD of DJ's cockpit in the 737-700/800's and there was no HUD but that was filmed in like 2007 I think.Virgin Australia do not have HGS installed in any Boeing 737NG aircraft, nor are any planned. This is not the type of company that would spend this sort of money in the land of CAVOK! January 24, 201214 yr That makes sense but why did they install the HUD system for a lot of money if they don´t use it?As japascoe said, they were used by AS, then sold to another carrier. It costs money to maintain them or pull them out so deactivation is the cheap option. That way you can sell the plane with them later if needed. Matt Cee
January 24, 201214 yr Oh, why that?Yea, like someone said. They were bought from Alaska and the company doesn't want to pay for the training/certification, etc.. Vince Lanz ATP RW B737 Pilot
