Trans Atlantic Flights, no waypoints available ? ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, As many of you, I prefer to do a VOR flightplan, or at least a "high altitude airways" option for my IFR flights, unfortunately when making a TATL flightplan, like from Heathrow to JFK, the flightplan takes you over the Ocean and all the way to North Central Canada when it turns back to NY... Why is this happening and is there any way to solve this problem, do waypoints have to be added for the Atlantic Ocean ? Haven't try Pacific Ocean yet, I'm using FS9 Thank You

Don't know if you have invested in some kind of a flight planner, such as FlightSim Commander8 or 9. If you have, then there is a feature in it called NATS(North Atlantic TrackS).You download from within the FSC8/9 and it displays a flight track that brings you into KJFK via Boston, etc just as RL BA flights do it.There might be an alternative to the payware FSC8/9 which I'm sure other experts in this Forum may be able to guide you with. But basically, in principle, you are looking for NATS for your problem.

Yes would be good if there were a free way to do it, but if not, how does FlightSim Commander acctually work, it the NATS and you than import them to FS9 ?

On one of the FSC menu tabs, there is a drop-down sub-menu to download 'live' NATS routing. Once you have created your departure airport and your destination airport, as well as you respective SIDs and STARs, you will see an overlay on a map of the TA showing you the various tracks. All you do is choose the one that suits you,and that si then integrated into your flightplan. And yes, FSC works in FS9/FSX.QED.

Thank you for a little preview, I'l have to consider FlightSim Commander than, in case I dont find an alternative to it, I hate doing direct flights, but I also hate going around Canada to get to US lol

You may not be going around Canada, But almost every NAT enters (And Departs) from Northeast Canada.BTW There are plenty of free ways to get NATS as well as Transatlantic flight plans.http://blackswan.ch/nat/

I checked again and it goes even further actually, with default IFR planning the route goes to the north over Greenland and onto northwest Canada to the border with Alaska to waypoint "ANDREW intersection", than making an almost U turn continues to New York

Use this, its free, and there is a drop down menu to include NATS in your flightplan. I use it most of the time.http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/

There you are, FlyMD, told you that somebody would come up with a freeware alternative.

....and if you then paste the route into here ... http://www.simroutes...ParseRoute.aspx you can create FS9 /PMDG/Level-D flight plans too... !!!
Nice one, never thought of doing that!!!!After many years of being in this hobby, still learning!!!

I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it, I usually bring up a flight plan on my iphone, and use the waypoints and manually input them in the FMC. I never really did load them in fs9, Im a push button kind of guy and dont mind the tedious task of manually entering the route in the FMC

The first website should give you this with NATS enabled:ID FREQ TRK DIST Coords Name/RemarksEGLL 0 0 N51°28'39.00" W000°27'41.00" LONDON HEATHROWCPT 114.35 277 28 N51°29'30.00" W001°13'11.00" COMPTONKENET 286 9 N51°31'14.00" W001°27'18.00" KENETBASET 290 10 N51°33'50.00" W001°42'36.00" BASETDIKAS 288 59 N51°46'37.00" W003°15'33.00" DIKASEVRIN 277 123 N51°46'56.00" W006°33'48.00" EVRINLIMRI 283 313 N52°00'00.00" W015°00'00.00" LIMRI52N020W 284 185 N52°00'00.00" W020°00'00.00" 52N020W53N030W 298 370 N53°00'00.00" W030°00'00.00" 53N030W53N040W 294 361 N53°00'00.00" W040°00'00.00" 53N040W52N050W 289 370 N52°00'00.00" W050°00'00.00" 52N050WCRONO 277 108 N51°22'48.00" W052°42'48.00" CRONODOTTY 275 117 N50°38'00.08" W055°34'56.57" DOTTYTOPPS 267 582 N45°20'24.65" W067°44'19.11" TOPPSBGR 114.8 258 57 N44°50'30.46" W068°52'26.27" BANGORODIKE 240 14 N44°40'06.55" W069°05'35.45" ODIKEENE 117.1 240 99 N43°25'32.42" W070°36'48.69" KENNEBUNKKJFK 238 219 N40°38'23.10" W073°46'44.13" JOHN F KENNEDY INTLAt the bottom copy "CPT UL9 BASET UL18 DIKAS UP4 EVRIN DCT LIMRI NATD DOTTY N162B TOPPS J581 ENE" and paste into the route section on the second website. Now your NAT track is NATD so click on "Oceanic tracks" and look up "D"....it tells you 52/20 53/30 53/40 52/50 CRONO is the NAT between LIMRY and DOTTY. So paste that into the route section in place of NATD.Make sure you have the dep/arr airports in the correct boxes and press "create route". Once complete you can download an FS9 flight plan file and an FMC file for PMDG etc. Save the EGLL-KJFK.pln to documents/flight simulator files on your computer.Open fs9 and go to create a flight...load and select EGLL-KJFK. Put a flight level in and save. You can then use the default GPS to follow the plan. I dont use the GPS but use the data to program my FMC or INS units if I am flying Concorde. You will find this method can create flightplans using waypoints that dont actually exist in FS9, but because FS9 knows the co-ordinates in the .pln file it will track the route correctly.Peter
