I'm not that much of tweaker. I just am keen to get decent FPS like most of us here. And by following these threads, I'll be ready when my 'dream rig' finally starts coming out of the packaging to be assembled.
You will really engoy your new rig. I held off for the longest time and then after I got it together it really improved my sim experience. All the best to ya.JB

[bUFFERPOOLS] UsePools=0 It's a category in itself, so you can place it at the very beginning of the fsx.cfg for example
Hi DarioJust so that I've done this correctly, I've altered the Poolsize=0. Is that different to your UsePools=0, or are they one and the same thing? IOW, do I have to also add UsePools=0 to the BP section?

It's the same thing Rick

Thanks for that clarification, Dario. I'm a bit puzzled why I'm now only getting 7FPS at LCPH(Paphos,Cyprus) on the ground, after making that modification?

I started a post on another on the MS FSX forum about poor performance. was only getting 12 fps at Heathrow with no joy, I knew something was not right.... Now getting around 20. You just need one person to point you in the right direction !!I hope this post has helped some people decide on what system to buy. After the help from Dazz I am more than satisfied with what I have got. Originally i did think that something was seriously wrong with my install, still cannot believe that one simple tweak can make so much difference !!Thanks again Dazz.Just one query, does anyone know that why now when a flight starts in full screen mode I get a black screen but entering SHIFT/CTRL/DELETE to enter task manager it reverts itself to normal viewing ?

Paul, glad it worked. It's all Jesús Altuve's merit for discovering the tweak.Rick, it works better for some than others but never heard of anyone getting lower FPS. What was your frame rate before the cfg edit?

Hi DarioIf I was confused before, I'm even more so now.I changed that Poolsize=0, and taxi-ing to Rwy 29 at LCPH, I started getting a really low FPS of around 7fps. Approaching the take-off point it dropped down to a ridiculous 2fs. I've never ever had that before. It was agonising watching the slo-mo,so I saved the flight, shut down, went back to Poolsize=50000(what it was previously),went back to the flight, and, surprise, surprise, was now getting 17fps at the take-off threshold. Once in the air it gradually increased to around 35fps.So, I'm left even more baffled and scratching my head. Any ideas?
Many get artifacting using the pools=0 tweak. (I do) In that case, using the rejectthreshold/usepools=1/Poolsize= tweak is best.
Please elaborate on 'artifacting'? What is it and what am I looking for to see if it is happening? Thanks, Zach.

For some reason, the BP=0 or and the Usepools=0 mod works for some and not for others. My previous comp liked the tweak, but my new one doesn't. I don't get artifacts, but I do get less performance with it.So I run a straight up Bojote config from his website and my system works real well. Each system will vary and I'm not saying to use my config entries, but just for the sake of refrerence, I only use the "reject threshold" line, no poolsize, or usepools entry.I'm still on XP64, not sure if that changes things, but just so ya know.JB

Hi Jack. Thanks for that.Oddly enough, I also discovered that I'd 2 entries for the Affinity Mask. One was: Affinity=255Other: Affinity=14(which is what I think Tabs recommended)I deleted the 255 as when I tried to run *******' auto-tweak, it rejected at that point saying I had 2 Jobscheduler entries.Another thing I noticed is streaks of texture flashing or spinning in front of me. No idea what is causing this.

AffinityMask 13 will make core 0 your primary thread, where 14 will make core 1 your primary thread on a 4 core machine and leave the empty core available for fibers as they call it. I bounced back between both afinity masks and decided to put my primary thread on the core that stayed the coolest, as I didn't see any performance gain on core selection.

This was when you were using the Usepools=0 tweak? If so, your seeing graphical artifacts as your system wants the dynamic vertex buffer to manage data flow from the CPU through the Bus to the GPU.If your seeing these artifacts with a bufferpool enabled, then thats just wacky.. :)JB

Appreciate your quick come-backs, Jack. Thanks.(a)No, the artifacts,---- if that is what seeing those wedge-shaped streaks are called--- were there before I made the Userpools=0 mod. I did not have the opportunity to see if I had any artifacts after I made the mod because by then the sim was crawling at an excruciating 2fps. However, with the mod, as I was taxi-ing down the taxi-way, I did notice the taxi-way texture was like a sea moving away in front but in a different colour,a darker grey compared to the taxi-way gret. Wish I'd taken a screengrab now.(b)so are you recommending that I change that Affinity Mask from 14 to 13(I'm running a 4-core Quad CPU at the moment, and it'll be the same when I build the i5-2500k -based rig)?

Regarding the artifacts, try rebuilding your fsx cfg by deleting it and running fsx. It will rebuild a default one. Then enter the sim and see if your still getting em. Let us know after you try that.Regarding the affinity mask. 13 and 14 are the same, just using a different core for the primary thread. Try rebuilding the cfg first and report back on the forum before you start screwing around with the affinity mask or the entire cfg for that matter. I'm on the road, but got my trusty iPhone with me, so, I will try to help.Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkJB

Jack, there is only one singular word for you.........ACE!!As I'm in the middle of a long-haul flight now, I'll do as suggested and get back here with the outcomes.Once again, Thanks.

Hi JackFlight over.Update time. First, I did as you recommended, let the fsx.cfg re-build. Then, I ran, the Bojote tweak and downloaded the Limiter but am not sure if the Limiter was working because when I ran the .exe it just flashed. Is it supposed to do that, or am I supposed to drop those .dll files somewhere? But the good news is that I got the best FPS at the same airport(LCPH)where in my previous posts, I had dropped down to around 2fps and back up to 17.But now, I'm getting around 24fps. Boy, am I pleased.Only one slight drawback as you can see from the attached screengrab, even after installing the latest Paphos freeware scenery, look at the dark overlay just ahead of 29. How do I get rid of that dark shadow that seems to be floating on top and moves away as I head along the Rwy?

Glad almost everything worked out :)I use the antilag limiter, the java one is too inconsistent and the inspector one doesnt work on xp.Regarding the black overlay on the freeware scenery... Does it only happen in that scenery? Do you see it if you disable that freeware scenery? If the scenery is causing it, then axe the scenery. I could give you better insight, but I don't use that scenery.JB
