Webisode 7: Flight is not about the act of operating an airplane

Featured Replies

That's not what's going on here. It's just coincidental that all of a sudden we have allot of new people posting, who are all universally on board with Flight to a fault, and have a knowledge of the product that's more than you would expect of a new person (about an unreleased product). Another thing is usually a beta team will consist of people that's been around for awhile not a bunch of people we've never seen before who all the sudden show up in these forums and coincidentally their beta team members. Bill Leaming is the only one I know of that's an old timer (I'm sure theirs a few others) on the beta team but the new people who appeared out of no where out weigh the long standing members and they have quite compelling arguments to counter anything one could say about Flight. Specific people come to mind... I swear before the announcement of Flight I've never seen them around. The arguments for the product they put up are as educated as a MS team member. How can all these new people that we've never seen around here before with no history of the legacy produce all the sudden qualify to be on the beta team of Flight and then suddenly show up here?I want to make it clear that I'm not in any way trying to accuse people of being disingenuous. All I'm saying is I understand the point being made. Many of us in these forums know what it feels like to be labeled, accused, and berated about our motives or who we are. So don't take this the wrong way because without facts it's all speculation and I'm glade we have new member interested in this hobby even if they are pro FLIGHT...
Perhaps those new people saw something new and interesting in Flight, different from past versions of FS that actually is worthwhile of discussion.Btw, last time I checked there was even someone who signed up just to berate Flight with a single post.

Then name them.
I took that part out of my post because there's no way of knowing. I think the rest of my post outlined what 'Shivers9' was trying to say. I've been on the pointy end of the arrow myself and more than understand it's wise to refrain from pointing people out unless you have facts to back it up.

I believe that guy was on the beta team and was the first one to warn us what was coming (he actually mentioned he was a developer and long standing enthusiast). He was accused of being everything under the sun for suggesting what turned out to be the truth about this product (Hawaii only, closed platform, etc, etc).

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

I shall try it too Bill. It's free and if I find I don't like it I'll uninstal it and stay with FSX and have lost nothing.
Okay, mgh, count me in, too.
The Maule and Vans RV6 are honestly better quality than most of the payware models for FSX.
Now, that's interesting, Bill. I'm looking forward to trying the RV6.But, per my post in another thread, I'm just not that interested in Hawaii. I'm interested in simulating real-world flights in Northern New York and New England.

Hawaii is the starting point.....some may have to reinstall Flight after awile....

Alain, you're killing me. Uh, not literally, but the ulcer is coming soon if the mysteries of Flight aren't soon revealed. And, yeah, yeah, if you told me what you really know, you'd have to really kill me. Seriously, when can I enjoy the benefits of Flight in my own neighborhood (we're talking KPBG, KBTV, KMHT, KBOS, KPWM)? It's keeping me up at night (see, it's past my bedtime right now). Well those posts are relatively easy to pick out...as you said they have high level of what would seem to be internal knowledge of Flight, 2 posts, AND an obviously high level of confidence in what they're saying. But there are also people who are just "lurkers". I have been a lurker for years, but started posting, largely because I have played FSX for a few years off and on, but only started buying add-ons in the last year. Also I wanted to see what was up with Flight. Another reason to post...plus I started liking the conversations, so I'm not longer the lurker. My first sims were fs98 and Sierra Pro Pilot (I worked for Sierra Online)...so I've been a lurky lurker. This isn't my only hobby though...I'm usually in the guitar and amp building forums....I hope Flight turns out to be better than everyone thinks, because FSX has poor memory management, and I have just learned to ignore it when I fly 400nm and then the sim CTD. I still love it though

Not all low count posters are new to the game. I go back to the subLOGIC days. Been following this board for quite a while, just seems like a fair number of people have already made up their minds based on conjecture.MSFT might have blown it with FLIGHT, but until it is released, we download it and try it we won't know for sure.Seems a number of members of the sim community feel MSFT owes them. WHY?FS9, FSX, Flight, AeroflyFS, X-Plane are all computer games. Some more realistic then others but games none the less. If you don't like them don't play them. But at least wait for a final product, try it then post a review on based on facts not ignorance.

In my most humble and quite insignificant opinion...Jim makes a good point; perhaps these 'new' posters are part of the new target market, have been part of the Beta, and are imparting theirimpressions about Flight in such a way as not to violate the terms of the NDA. Take their comments and evaluate them as you see fit, or justwait until 2/29/2012 to give the software a try on your own and judge for yourself. Will I be trying Flight? Unfortunately not; according to the Specs, I don't think it will run well on a single core system.Alan Straight%20Face.gif

and there is a few that step outside the beta forum quote something that they know its true about Flight here at Avsim , knowing that a person cant talk outside the beta forums .

Image removed as image is no longer available.

There are a lot of beta testers here, myself included, that haven't piped up. I really don't have anything to add other than I most likely won't be purchasing anything for Flight until MSGS gives us a solid roadmap which includes features that are important to me.

It would seem the members of this new target market would be showing-up rather quickly here at AvSim! Usually folks sign-up when they have problems running the sim or are looking for advice as to what hardware and add-ons to get to increase the sim enjoyment. With Flight in beta, it would seem none of the preceding reasons would apply.Cheers,- jahman.

It's also wise not to make allegations in the first place without any facts to support them.

I was not part of the beta (not for lack of trying) and I don't work for Microsoft. I came to this forum because I'm interested in MSFlight, and my wife doesn't really want to talk to me about my interest in simulated aviation! In this forum I can find people with open minds and an interest in expanding and growing our "hobby" - and have electronic discussions with them. That's why I'm here.Wow Barbarian - Pro Pilot? That brings back some good memories - I believe I stil have the box in my closet!

IIRC, that same guy spent maybe 20 minutes playing around with the beta, didn't bother turning off the assists or setting up a joystick and basically declared it crap after a single cursory glance.

He certainly must be a true prophet.
