Reinstallation problems on new Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard

Featured Replies

HiI decided to upgrade my system at the week end and bought a ready built bundle from my local supplier and also a new hard drive as my intention was to install windows 7 64 bit on the primary drive leaving my WD velociraptor free for all my FSX stuff. After successfully putting all the hard ware together i proceed to install windows, immediately i noticed that the installation was different from previous installations by this i mean it was a lot quicker. After completion i noticed first of all i had lost the ability for windows to recognise my router plus a few other explanation marks in the device manager indicating problems, having built a few systems without any issues i found this strange and believing the MOB came with all the chips set drivers installed i just proceeded with window 7 installation. Now after some time and starting to think there were no chipset drivers installed i run the CD that came with my MOB and after installation it did solve all my hardware issues but now i am plagued with software problems, i.e. windows locking up, some of my add on scenery files not unpacking. Have i possibly corrupted some windows files on installing the chip set drivers second and if so will i have to do a complete install of windows now to rectify my problems. Cheers Shaun

In a normal installation you install Windows, Windows installs drivers for any hardware it finds that it has drivers for. After Windows is completely installed you then install chipset drivers, lan drivers, usb drivers etc. for your motherboard that are included on the motherboard CD. After that you install whatever other drivers you want to install that you have on other hardware CD's like the GPU or what you just want to update to the latest like Intel RST drivers. If you are having problems already you may want to just install Windows and all drivers from scratch.

ShaunI recently did the same as you but have no issues (ie installed chipset drivers after Win 7 OS).One thing to try is to run sfc /scannow and that can fix some Windows issues ie corrupted files - not all but its worth a try.May be worth running chkdsk /r at startup to eliminate any hdd issues.May be worth running the BIOS "fail safe" defaults.Win 7 also has a 'fixit' center and that can also help. Finally you may have to consider a windows repair or at worst a reinstall.Good luckPeterH
