LNAV switch not engaging

hello everything on the 747 works fine except that usually the LNAV switch does not always ilminate some times it takes over 20 tries to work, sometimes it goes right on but not usually. thanks kevin okeefe

Pay no attention to the light in the button, that just means it can be deactivated by pressing it again.Look to the Top of the pfd to see what ap modes are armed/engaged

I had a flight recently and noticed there IS a problem here.I was on appr when pressed LOC / APPR. Straight away the joke disabled, and squawkbox opened. There seems to be a conflict going on and so I had to remap some keystrokes.
