Good system, good framerate, but - bad stutters...

Thanks for the kind words José, but I'm no guru, just a somewhat proficient googler :biggrin:What I would do before taking the plunge on any hardware upgrade is to try and identify the source of the stutters. It can be time consuming but the only way I know is trial and error. Disable one addon at a time. Change one setting at a time... until you get an idea of what's causing the problem. As for the CTD's, those API.dll & ntdl.dll are usually related to an unstable overclock

I only had these CTD's before with my old graphics card. My overclock is stable (12 hours in Prime95 large FFT, no errors). Temps at full load are generally below 70C.And I've just no idea how to find out what is causing the problem. I've tried everything, litterally everything. Different settings in FSX.cfg, NVIDIA inspector, in windows, disabling and deleting several things, different graphics settings... I just tried the XPlane 10 demo, and it runs pretty much silky smooth. Now trying F1 2011.

Dario,He's having the same issues that I had. I think that we can rule out the videocard for now.I would recommend an Auto setting in the BIOS.Let's rule out the video card for now and concentrate on the board. If I had to recommend a different board than mine I would opt for a board that supports PCIE 3.Maybe Dario can help with this one. He is the hardware guru I turn to when I need help.
For the moment I'm concentrating on both, Jose. I will return my card anyway. I just regret it. Because:1. It's too new and therefore limited to only the newest drivers (285.xx or later)2. It's not a very known card, quite a rare one. So what if I want to put another one with it in SLI in the future? That would be hard to find one.So did you have the exact same issues that I had? Good frame rate but short stuttering and lagging everytime? Can you also confirm that the problem went away after buying that new MSI motherboard? I'm thinking about buying the MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 (which also supports PCI 3.0), does that look like a good choice to you?

I can confirm that after changing the board, I had no more problems. As for the video card, the driver version is just as important as the card you choose. I think that you're doing the right thing.Speaking from just my own personal experience, MSI makes some great hardware. I think that you will be a very happy person. BUT, please if it's not everything you dreamed of, don't come back and say Jose, how could you? LOLI have only high praise for my board, but I'm sure that there are many people who have had much success with Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc. Best of luck and keep us informed.

Thanks Jose! No of course it would not be your fault. It's FSX's fault that this game won't run properly on most hardware. Just annoys me. Cuz other games work fine.

Hi, I'm thinking about buying the board you have, I'm gonna sell my current one. But it says on the specs that is supports a maximum of 1333 MHz of RAM, but my RAM is 1600MHz, but I know that some boards support more even though they say 1333MHz. What about you? Can you get 1600MHz on your board?Btw, how long ago did you change from your Asus to your MSI board?

Where did you get that the board doesn't support DDR 31600? Here are the board specs:http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=BasicI switched the board back in October and my OCZ DDR 1600, CAs 7 Ram works perfectly.

Just added:[bufferPools]PoolSize=0to my cfg on my I7 box this AM. I'm quite stunned at how smoothly it's running. Almost 3 hours fly time worth in Orbx NZSI and not one whiplash inducing stutter. Got to do some more testing in major urban areas but I'm really impressed so far.One curious thing, my video card memory useage has dropped from around 40 - 60 % down to around 15% ? (as indicated in NV Inspector). Doesn't make logical sense to me but maybe I'm reading it wrong. Not sure if I can get away with it on my older rig but I'll give it a go after I'm done wringing out the I7.Definitely worth a try.

Naah... you'll need a bufferpool, Flt. That 4-gig proc will overpower the 280. :( Hmmm a 470 or 480 is pretty cheap nowadays.... :(

He's using a 580 on his i7 4.6 gig rig.Pete

Win10: 22H2 19045.2728
CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz
Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz.
GPU:  RTX 24Gb Titan
2 x 2160p projectors at 25Hz onto 200 FOV curved screen

I was answering this, Pete:

He's talking about his other system. :( Yes - I'm beginning to love FSUPIC - it's only been 20+ years... :(

LOL, that will save me some time. Thanks.

I think the problem is my video card. Which is quite a rare one, not a regular GTX 560TI, but a GTX 560TI-448, perhaps these 448 shader cores have got some kind of incompatibility issues with FSX.
Did you ever get the 580 and see if FSX improved much with it over your 560?

Yep I have the 580 now and it show 0 difference in FPS and microstuttering, HOWEVER, i lended some 1600/CL6 RAM from somebody and this did reduce my microstuttering to a very acceptable level, a level that basically everyone is seeing.

uh.... no, sorry, Arjen - I have no micro-stuttering.
