News from RealAir Simulations: It's a SCOUT :)

I'm not saying this payware version won't be better, just that some totally different aircraft would be more interesting."JimmiG, all I can say in reply is... a)Developers, payware or freeware, have a perfect right to develop whatever models they see fit. They are under no obligation to produce only models suggested by others. b)If you cannot see the specific models that you want then get your finger out and produce your own. The time thus spent would mean less time to spend here criticising one of the best flight sim developers around today.More power to your elbow Rob and the RealAir team. As a personal tribute to your excellent work, I am sure that Sir Henry would have approved of me dedicating my footer to RealAir Simulations (although in no way would I describe your work as humble)

In addition......The RealAir Decathlon uses "spinning techniques" that are not available in most aircraft for FS2002/2004. I don't remember the freeware version being spinable. But then my HD went to permanent sleep & many planes will have to be re-loaded. Therefor, what I remember......... might not be the absolute truth! :)L.Adamson

Looking forward to your Scout model, I love every bits of the SF.260 and I'm sure it'll be the same for this one. However we will shortly be announcing another new aircraft.I hope it's a twin!

"I hope it's a twin!"And a fast twin at that. Whatever it is, I'll be in line to buy... and I don't buy alot of payware anymore.

I think it would be great if RealAir would also make a high quality Cessna 172. I love the freeware version, but your payware quality is simply amazing!!

second that!:)

Volker,Sure we have the same tastes and since the beginning of the RealAir adventure ! It's cool indeed to have a bush plane with STOL capabilities which will allow some adventurous approaches in wild mountainous fields. The fact the Scout will be equipped with and HSI and a RMI is interesting too. I like the Decathlon but I was somewhat missing those instruments.

That's really cool. A bush plane of that quality will be very exciting - I can't wait! :)

"a)Developers, payware or freeware, have a perfect right to develop whatever models they see fit. They are under no obligation to produce only models suggested by others."True, but the addon aircraft market is just like any market - if you make products that people want, it's more likely that people will actually buy them. If there is a freeware alternative which is almost as good, people will find it harder to justify the purchase of a payware version. Especially with the Scout because it's one of those "big" freeware projects - VC, custom panel etc. while most freeware planes are pretty basic.Imagine if someone released a payware Falcon50 just after the freeware one, or a payware Maule now.On the other hand, this forces the developers to really make sure the payware version is "perfect" because of the competition."If you cannot see the specific models that you want then get your finger out and produce your own. The time thus spent would mean less time to spend here criticising one of the best flight sim developers around today."Where was I criticising? Just stating that there already is a Super Decathlon and Scout as freeware in the library. And anyway, since when was criticising payware developers a crime?"The RealAir Decathlon uses "spinning techniques" that are not available in most aircraft for FS2002/2004. I don't remember the freeware version being spinable. "I think I read that the freeware Super Decathlon spins. Might be wrong though. I only downloaded the Scout and haven't even tried spinning it. With an aerobatic aircraft it makes sense that it should be able to spin, but when you're flying a bush/GA type aircraft, you're actually trying to avoid spins. Honestly, how much of your flying time do you spend spinning vs actually flying?

HI Jimmi,You're right, there is a choice and everyone can excercise it. Generally speaking payware development time exceeds most freeware development, so there will regularly be overlaps between an emerging payware addon and its freeware equivalent. If every payware developer runs and hides just because an alternative developer releases something, no payware would ever be produced!I've lost count of how many 737's and Airbuses have been released over the years. Each release may have strengths in one area that appeals to one user and weaknesses which puts another off, but it is rare for one release to have a monopoly. The opportunity to fine tune, and get every possible detail right means that aircraft addons are not so much identified by the make of aircraft but by the level of quality therein. There are many ways of baking the same cake!Kind Regards,Rob Young
