February 23, 201214 yr Saluting descended from the practice of raising one's visor when greeting a fellow knight. They were raised of course for two reasons; demonstrating lack of hostile intent and for identification...And also because the sword couldn't be drawn while the visor was being raised with the right hand. February 23, 201214 yr Pilots sit in the right hand side all over the world as far as I know Brian, apart from choppers.PF in the company Rockwell Commander out of EGCW flew from the left seat (co-pilot in the right)... also in his C152. That is true....Another thing the English got wrong. 'On' is supposed to be up and 'Off' is supposed to be down. That is the way it is done everywhere except for UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Except as an industrial standard across the EU, the idea being that it's not safe to switch something on by falling on it. All industrial circuit breakers are down for off. Doh! except when they're mounted sideways! Actually riding a horse on the left side of a trail dates back to pre-Medieval times. Since one holds one's sword in the right hand, you would want to meet your opponent with him on your right side. It's pretty ackward to fight an opponent with a sword when he's on the left side! ... and why towers in castles corkscrew to the left as you go down (it's easier to stab downward with your right hand, and to shield yourself with the axial column).Regards,D Edited February 23, 201214 yr by Dave_Morgan
