February 23, 201214 yr Hi guys, I'm just about to part with some hard earned cash to purchase a two year old Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP 30" LCD and was hoping someone could offer some advice. I understand it's an awesome bit of kit and I'm really excited about getting my hands on it. However, can anyone who has one of these screens tell me whether I will see any increase in stuttering or lack of smoothness. I have read differing reports about framerate hits on the forum... some have said they have seen no difference from going from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 while others have seen a small impact. So can anyone offer some advice before I part with my dosh, or indeed any other observations about the monitor that may be relevent, cheers fellas. February 24, 201214 yr I have a pair of Dell U3011 monitors on my FS machine...they're awesome. That said, I don't know if the 3008 is an IPS display like the 3011--IPS makes a difference. You will see a small impact to frame rates at SHD (2560x1600) resolution, although with a 4.6GHz SB CPU and a 580 it won't hurt much. Crikey, that must look awesome. I am expecting a small drop in frames, but just concerned as to how much. I'm picking it up later today so I will know then, cheers. February 24, 201214 yr Hi Howard,I have the HP ZR30W @ 2560x1600 and I didnt notice any FPS drop. However, I did drop my AA down to 4xS as I found the increased resolution negated the need for 8xS which would probably have helped too. It's used, but immaculate, a spot on image. I cannot wait to fire her up , probably sometime on Sunday. Before I bought it I arrived with my base unit and fired up my usual test flight, which is sat at the end of the runway at Anacortes with very dense AG. My usual framerate is about 28 / 29 with the new monitor it was showing 25/26 so about a 10-15% drop, not too bad I suppose. I will claw some of those frames back by, like you said, tweaking the AA and also the sliders in the CP. I can't wait for Sunday! HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776

February 26, 201214 yr Guys, seems like you have some experience with IPS monitors - doesn't IPS glow disturb you? I mean, I have a TN, and wanted IPS for a better angle stability, and what I got was an IPS glow at night highly disturbing the panels, up to the point that I see nothing at some angles...I mean, am I asking for much?Tried HP ZR24W and ZR2440W. My budget is max. some 400€.

February 27, 201214 yr Author @Rockliffe--my 3011s are pleasantly warm, not hotCheers Bob, I guess they must have dealt with the heat issue in the 3011 version. I ran it for six hours constantly on Saturday and four hours yesterday with no apparent problem, so I guess it will be OK. You were right about the impact on frames, but it is relatively small and only a small price to pay for such a fantastic flying experience! Especially corners, when viewed slightly from the side.PVA shouldn't have any glow, but any *VA panels have significant input lag and/or response.
February 29, 201214 yr Word Not Allowed--in a pitch-black room, there's a dull blue-grey glow, but nothing as gnarly as your video. That said, my TN Samsungs also have bleed-through in a very dark room. It's the price you pay for having a bright, high-contrast image in normal room lighting I guess. February 29, 201214 yr IPS monitors always display this glow. It's like a vertical darkness problem on a TN monitor, just horizontal, and not darkening, but a glow, which at the same time darkens the picture a bit and also glows. Quite weird effect. But to be honest, I'm more going up and down in my chair as I lean back, than I go left/right. So out of two evils, IPS is probably better at the end of the day, also providing much higher contrast. But what disturbed me is that the picture was also glowing a bit when looking directly into the screen, at 90degrees. Also pure white shows some darkening in corners when looked directly. Now, I could live with it normally, but when I start seeing a glow in the lower part of the screen when looking at dim light NGX at night, is where the show stops for me. I had to lean back the monitor to have the lower glow gone at dark pictures - not a comfy looking zone for me. I like the screen at 90degrees, as probably most of people.Anyway, I am returning both screens, and ordered a Dell U2412M, see how that one performs. Some say there is a contrast loss, but time is gonna tell.
