SDK--any way to read the cabin press and CDU?

Recommended Posts

I just did a quick perusal of the SDK...is there any way to read the cabin diff press and altitude, and the six lines of text on the FMS CDUs?What I want to do is code a touchscreen overhead panel to run networked on a second PC (need the cabin press readings for that) and also a separate touchscreen app for one or both FMS CDUs, which would need the text lines as displayed on the CDUs. I can't find either of those data elements in the .h file.

Bob,Very candidly, we're not opening up the FMC for development at this time. It's a huge can of worms to do that both from the technical and business perspectives. You can press the CDU buttons with the SDK, but getting inside the code and reading/writing things - just way too much potential for things to go wrong there. It's easily the most complicated and fragile part of any product we make. Sorry. We don't want to be dealing with CTDs and stuff at support where we have no idea what's causing it but it's actually some third party addon messing with the FMC.I will ask on the cabin pressure thing.

Its a shame that the calculated Vref speeds could not be read directly from the FMC and that the SDK is not a .net dll. Will have to learn simconnect now!

Does that mean no possibility to add MCDU/FANS modules? Too bad, I was hoping for integration with ACARS systems... :(

The takeoff speeds are there, as well as the Landing VREF:unsigned char FMC_LandingVREF; // knots, 0 if not setNot being a .dll is no prob. Now you've got an excuse to learn Simconnect.Cheers,

Cool, hadn't looked inside the header file....just based my assumption on Ryans post above. Will finish off my other projects first before I start playing with Simconnect!

Ryan...OK, but maybe you misunderstand what I'm trying to do. I don't want to get inside the FMC logic...the idea is to send the keystrokes from the touchscreen using the already-provided interface, and additionally to display whatever the NG's FMC is displaying remotely. All that's needed is a way to read (and only read) the 7 lines of text displayed by each of the NG's FMCs.

Keystrokes are provided for both L and R CDUs. I don't know about reading text...

hi.

I am now so confused about how to read the text on CDU` screen. I know a APP named Virtual CDU for iOS and Android can read text information from PMDG737NGX.(http://www.virtualavionics.com.br/).Do you have some idel to read each char from CDU now?

Thx

Are you sure they are not intercepting the actual screen gauge image?

When I was working on an IDU, that had to display text in manner not dissimilar to the CDU, I found I need to do it by rendering text on a bitmap. Perhaps the virtualavionics guys figured out how to intercept that bitmap.

After 4 days of exploring memory locations and debuging FSX, I managed to pick up CDU text lines for both captain and f/o...

I used the same principle as VirtualAvionics guys...reading directly from FSX/PMDG process memory...and IT WORKS  :P  :P  :P  :P

I'll try to document this method in next few days and publish it online...since I'm a bit ######  when someone keeps this kind of stuff for themselves...simply, I'm not that kind of guy ;)

Stay tuned...

regards,

Marko

Hi Marko!

Great to hear that you could succeed reading the CDU lines from the NGX!

Would it be possible for you to post your solution here? I have also built a small homecockpit around the NGX, and I am using SimConnect to access the variables. Everything works pretty well so far. However, I have not yet found a way to read the CDU lines...

Best regards,

Joe
