Flight will cost a small fortune

Recommended Posts

I guess that you've missed out on much of Orbx's goodness then...
ORBX packs are not expansions, they are "enhancements", a distinction everyone seems to be missing when it comes to FSX add-ons.As you know Flight does not model the whole world hence the need for "expansion"Bryan.

Thank you, n4gix and guy,I was led into error because only limited myself to read the posts and have not consulted the Wiki .... I have to self-flagellate for this infamous oblivion ....!n4gix ...you have absolute reason. I should have subtracted the value of the RV-6 because with all the credit, is modeled impeccably ... but both could agree in each pack, these gifts from Microsoft ...Continuing with the "joke of the value of the land / scenery created" (exercise in pure speculation), which is nonetheless an interesting exercise of economic viability led to this insane exaggeration, and with the updated values can already make a table of forecast futures prices DLC's the rest of the world ...With the default value of the initial pack of Hawaii, had come to the conclusion that the value of the square mile was $ 0.00183 .. . but will revise downward the value taking into account the kindly I was suggested by n4gix.this time I'll use the kilometer square instead of square miles ... (it's easier for me who lives in a country where the meter is standard.)Hawaii (according to wiki) has 28,311 square Kilometers to which we must subtract the 41.2% water .... what gives ... 16 646.841 Km2 of land for $ 5 ...... i.e. .... $0.3 per 1000 Km2....1 km2 of land / scenario price is $ 0.0003Earth........148,940,000 km2 of land ...... would the price .... $ 44,682or...Canada ..... 9,093,507 km2 ........... $ 2.728Contiguous United States (48 States) 8,080,464.3 km2 ..... ............ $ 2,424.14South America ... 17,840,000 km2 ......................... $ 5.352Africa .................. 30,221,532 km2 ......................... $ 9,046.45Europe .............. 10,180,000 km2 ........................ $ 3.054Asia (+ Indonesia Islands, etc ... etc) ......... 43,810,582 km ² ....... $ 13,143.17Oceania (Australia, N. Zealand, etc. ...) ............ 8,536,716 km2 ..... $ 2.561 (ORBX reigns here... "Orbx - FTX: Australia DVD SP4 AUD $ 99.95 ...."“Left out for now, the North Pole and South Pole .. still cannot establish a reasonable price for cubic meter of ice ... “Reviewing the table above ... I ask:--- will be… $ 100 …. a fair price to pay for each continent .... IF the level of detail of the terrain is similar to what was presented in the scenery of Hawaii? (I'm just talking about the detail of the terrain and their textures and, standard airports… no “over detailed” airports included)--- or otherwise, on the continents where there will be significantly less interest in purchasing (e.g.…: for having a small number of potential buyers) --- the price could be much, much lower?A modern view of the market economy is ... for those who cannot produce in quantity and cheap.... change the manufacturing to China!So... if.... Flight Team need to cut the prices of production, has only one solution ... create a giant team of scenery developers ... in China!.............. ( Apple did it ... Microsoft has done it many times ......)Cheers

The State of Alaska has roughly 89 times as much land as the State of Hawaii (570,833 vs. 6,423 square miles). But Microsoft is obviously not going to set the price of "The Journey to Alaska" 89 times higher than "The Hawaiian Adventure Pack," because no one would pay $1780 ($20 * 89), or even $445 ($5 * 89) for it. My guess is that the amount of scenery included in any DLC (Pack) is not a big factor in how much it costs to produce. Based on what we have seen so far, the scenery is apparently not that expensive to add. The aircraft are the expensive part.

Hi Arwen, I fully agree with your opinion....I just "told" a joke ... just wanted to stir the water a little......hihihihiI fully believe that future DLC's will be accessible to all budgets. The microsoft does not mess around when it comes to making money. It makes perfect sense that the lion's share falls on top of airplanes .... is like "vanity fair" in the car market ... if I cannot buy a Ferrari ..... I'll buy one .... Daewoo Matiz.

I totally got that. I love statistics and it is always fun to apply pure them when we are speculating (which a LOT of us seem to enjoy doing).I was just adding my own guesses. If MS would just give us some real information, we wouldn't have to spend so much time speculating, every time they feed us a little bit about Flight.

Just please God, give us VOR, DME, Autopilot
VOR and DME are already included and working. And when you mouse over the NAVAIDs (you need to change a setting to show them) in the map, it plays the ident morse code for the aid.And for long flights, just hit the space bar to change to mouse mode - it overides the trim and makes the aircraft more stable. I did a 50nm, night clandestine mission @ 500ft AGL, whilst washing the dishes and putting the kids to bed. Each time I came back to the computer, the level had only varied maybe +/-20ft.

LOL That's actually a nice tip: using mouse mode for AP for the time bing... I might try that!

Agreed, why would anybody spend that amount and still not gain the whole world for it. It just does not make any sense particularly for anybody who has spent fairly large amount of money on FSX.I have recently installed the VRS F18 which I purchased some time ago and am having blast learning how to start from cold and dark and getting the thing of the ground.Spending time and particularly large amounts of money on Flight when I have a machine like that will really seem like going back to the dark ages of flight simming, and I don't mean any disrespect to any Flight supporters when I say that.Bryan.
Couldnt' agree more, Bryan.I have actually removed MS Flight from my harddisk a couple of days ago and will stick to FSX for the time being. Who knows I might come back for another go in an few months time once more than just a couple of sceneries will (should !!) be available and take it from there.MS surely will offer package deals once it has transpired that Flight has not developped into the money spinner they have hoped for!

Hi all. First, let me say that I am new to these forums. I've been simming for many years but I usually just read the forums and follow along with the topics of interest. Anyway, I've been reading this post and thought I'd throw my two cents in about the cost of DLC for Flight that has me wondering. If MS introduces scenery, say one state at a time for the U.S. (and this is just hypothetical) and I enjoy departing from Miami, Florida but I want to fly to Chicago, Illinois I'm guessing I would have to purchase at least one state that connects, or else I will be flying in a huge black hole between Florida and Illinois. I usually don't like to speculate on anything related to software because I'm usually so far off it just doesn't pay to torture myself wondering but surely MS would release the scenery as regions, countries, or based on square mileage. Otherwise, I'd have to buy 5 states, and going off the price of the current add-on pack (need some kind of number), that would $100.00 (yeah, i know, tough math). Now, I personally wouldn't mind paying $100.00 for North America but if I don't particularly enjoy, say Tennessee or Kentucky, I would be paying $100.00 for areas I really don't enjoy flying. In other words, this kinda kills the idea of "you pay for what you want". I'm actually excited to see how this plays out.On another note, as for aircraft, that to me is much easier to pick and choose. I personally enjoy the big jets but I do also enjoy the slower single props for just enjoying the scenery. Here I would feel that I could just purchase which ever of these I wanted, so I don't mind having to make this purchase, as long as it is reasonable. Anyway, at the moment I don't play Flight too much because of the limited DLC and features but I see a lot of potential and will be keeping my eye on the Marketplace.

Here is some math for ya. OrbX airports like 3W5 and Twin Falls = about 35$. Hawaii adventure pack comes with 30 strips, with at least 10 of them being almost OrbX quality. Thats 350$ right there. Now lets do some FSX math. To replace all of the crappy 24,000 FSX default runways that nobody uses with OrbX ones will cost $840,000! Wow! :Hypnotized:Well thats sort of like using the $20 for Hawaii math for the rest of the world, isent it?

Hi jtrot22 and welcome to the forums here!Always good to see new blood joining in.It will be interesting to see how MS progresses in regards to DLC and geography. My guess is they will block it into regions, much like the way say some of the Mesh folks do, like FS Genesis for FSX.But who knows, no one will until more is revealed.Hey btw, what you got against TN and KY? I live in TN, born and bred here, and got kin in KY! lol, j/kGive Flight some more time, you will be surpised what all you can do, even with just the core free download - especially with the missons and challenges, and if you splurge for the Hawaii pak, it opens up a bunch more.Have fun!

Hi JTrot - Welcome to the forums - What's pretty neat is the entire globe is already in Flight, just in low resolution and detail. So, if you did have FL and IL 'enhanced scenery packs' and flew between, all the land would be there, it just wouldn't look very good.
