March 5, 201214 yr I would be able to see if I could download MS Flight.I've tried a few times and at various times in a 24 hour cycle (only a dedicated flight-sim nut would set their alarm clock for 4-00 am to get up and download). I've never yet got more than 0.40Mb (sometimes only 0.10Mb) of the total 1492.10Mb on the download progress strip, when after a couple of seconds it stops, and doesn't move any further. On two occasions I've waited patiently in this state for 45 minutes or so before cancelling. My mobile broadband connection is fast enough. Works fine with everything else. Although its PAYG, I have enough allowance to cover the total download. Dont know if my UK ISP may be imposing any restrictions on the MS Flight site but I've sucessfully downloaded similar amounts from sites like 'Steam' for other games. And for these, if my mobile connection was interrupted, download could be restarted from where it left off. Dont know if Flight works the same way. I've updated my XP machine with all the Windows updates, Service Pack 3, even the special Hotfix which the site finally tells me I also need before I can run the game on XP.I know its not down to anti-virus software, and my firewall is open to downloads from Windows Marketplace. The black download window says it has found Games for Windows Marketplace Client, Microsoft Games for Windows-Live, Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant and .Net all on my machine, and I have accepted the license terms and conditions. The window also says it's downloading Microsoft Flight - but there is no progress. I cant find any other windows open where it might be waiting for some response from me before proceeding.I can imagine MS servers are busy - but I'm not sure how busy and whether my problem is down to this or something on my machine that I cant see. Even when I give up and cancel download after the 45 minutes, I have to use Task Manager to get rid of the download window. TM says 'MS Flight' is running, it doesnt initially say Flight is "Not Responding" - only says this when the subsequent "End Program" window appears. Apologies for this long post, but Im struggling here. From the forums, many members seem to have downloaded OK, but I'm wondering if anyone else found any similar problems or, from the above, might have any suggestions to help.ThanksSid
March 5, 201214 yr I agree... that is a long post to say you are having trouble DLing Flight. The only thing I can suggest, is that you do a search in this forum. I think others have posted that problem and some solutions.
March 5, 201214 yr Make sure you are logged into Games for Windows live and are using an online profile and not a offline profile, also make sure it is the same account as linked to the marketplace etc. Apart from that, should just work. Firewall is important, wont work without this being set correctly as you noted. Some AV even when disabled will still cause issues (bullguard, AVG, Kaspersky) if you are using, disregard if not. -Scotty
March 5, 201214 yr Hi Siddo,Welcome to AVSIM and to the Flight Forum. I trust you will be able to get your download and take part in the construction of a Flight community here.Kind regards,
March 5, 201214 yr Not really sure, but I notice you say you're using Mobile broadband and you're in the UK. Who is your broadband provider and what sort of download speed do you normally get?Try and disable your firewall completely, though I run AVG (and had it enabled the whole time) and it didn't cause any issues. I got the whole thing downloaded in 10 minutes over my Virgin 50meg line! :Just Kidding:All I can suggest really is contact your broadband provider about the issue. You could also send MS Flight support an email stating you're having download problems.
