March 14, 201214 yr It just can't be true that it should be so difficult to make this thing work.../KimKim. Do you know that you have a working cab file. Did you try to unzip the cab before you install the base pack? Could be that you just have a corrupt installation file. Important the roots of the new paths must not be the root dir on your drive no "D:" make it something like D:GFWThis seems to be key recommendation. I hate such subfolders and first installed it in the root directory. Never found my DLC. Fixed after I installed it into a subfolder. So, Kim, make sure you follow this advice Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
March 15, 201214 yr Finally: SUCCESS :biggrin:I am almost embarrassed to say that it was all a question of folder structure... When I finally got Flight itself installed at S:GFWMicrosoft Flight and the DLC folder located at S:GFWDLC, it all worked, no more "corrupted" messages! So that little advice about NOT installing Flight or the DLC in the root of the drive was the key to the solution. I am very grateful to Don and Ramon! (And I was getting a bit bored with the damned balloon + ukulele flights I had to do after each reinstall. Only good thing about them: you get XP points each time you fly them...)RegardsKim
March 15, 201214 yr Finally: SUCCESSKim , that is absolutely fantastic news! I am so glad for you! I have been looking forward to seeing this post from you for some time. You are most welcome, and I am just glad you stuck with it until it got sorted out. Not everyone would have.NOW, get back in there and start exploring and enjoying the world of Flight that exists beyond the balloon and ukelele flights!Man, you deserve big time bonus XP points for just the perseverance and patience you have exhibited!I look forward now, to seeing posts from you describing your experiences and thoughts on the sim.Have fun! March 16, 201214 yr Finally: SUCCESSNo thanks required; Your success is also our success. For now we know exactly what the problem might be when people try to move Flight to another drive. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 16, 201214 yr For now we know exactly what the problem might be when people try to move Flight to another drive.Hmm. Does it really have to be in the same folder like d:gfw? Would be stupid but I still get the corrupted installation message every few times I start and I have the base pack in s:flight and downloads and addons in s:gfw. Hesitating to download yet another 1.4gb but I would laugh my a** off if installing all under one folder cured my problem. I mean why does ms offer then to set different paths?! Besides the annoying corrupted installation message I am facing these days a massive increase of CTDs, preferably short before the end of a mission. How I love this! Both combined might justify the effort of yet another full installation Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
March 16, 201214 yr Phil: I hope we can help you sort your problem. On the subject of folders or directories:Some apps don’t "like" root folders, yet others for related reasons try to look for their content or data on relative, child, common or parent folders. It depends on the programming style and some other factors like api, dlls and operating systems.Just have all LIVE related paths on the same parent folder "S:DAD <whatever the path name is>If you are still having CTD's (app crash), give it a try.Note: If it fails you do your laugh, ill cry.Hope this helps You.On the subject of " a massive increase of CTDs,", I think it has been reported during the last couple days to the Beta site, Ill check there. Addons are in 1 place and flight itself in another but same drive. Hate it if programs force an installation path. Would just love to have all under d:flight like my d: fsx. Btw win7 sp1 and all proposed updates are installed. As well as the latest nvidia driver from their site. March 16, 201214 yr Hi guysThank you for your kind words. It feels a bit like I have been involved in a beta test without being told about it :Hypnotized:But that's OK, now I will start using more time in flying mode instead of installing mode!RegardsKim

As well as the latest nvidia driver from their site.Phil fwiw, you absolutely can have your addons and the Flight program in the same place, and imho would be the preferred way. The key is to set the folder you want the DLC to go to from within the Games for Windows Live program. Then only download the DLC from there, not from within the game itself. Certainly it is still going to put certain configuration files under your appdata folder which resides on C:, but as far as the program itself and addons this can be done.In fact, I have mine setup this way - Both the addon folders and the Flight program folder reside within my my E:/ Microsoft Games folder. Now originally this was not the case, I had Flight on E:/ Microsoft Games, but addons were installed on C:Program Files(x86/Microsoft Games for Windows Live iirc . I did not like this and deleted the addons , which caused me big time grief when I reinstalled to E: until I got that resolved. But all is well now. Don B
March 16, 201214 yr Both the addon folders and the Flight program folder reside within my my E:/ Microsoft Games folder.mine are as follows:Z:FlightMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight ; andZ:GFWAddons4d5308d2should work, shouldn't it? I mean it does start and load all fine, just did a cargo mission into hana w/o problems. just having flight base and addons in 2 different folders cannot cause CTD, can it? March 16, 201214 yr just having flight base and addons in 2 different folders cannot cause CTD, can it? I would say No.But unfortunately I don't know how LIVE and FLight manage or deal with the folder tree structure. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
March 16, 201214 yr Z:FlightMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight ; andZ:GFWAddons4d5308d2should work, shouldn't it? I mean it does start and load all fine, just did a cargo mission into hana w/o problems. just having flight base and addons in 2 different folders cannot cause CTD, can it?Hmm - techically no, that should not be a problem. I was just mainly emphasizing, you stated a desire to have the addon folders reside under the same folder as Flight does, and I got the impression that your perception was this could not be done, I wanted to make sure you were aware in fact it could be done. Now, in my instance, my Games for Windows Live folder is installed by default to my C:/ ProgramFiles(x86 folder. I had at some point in the past apparently installed Games for Windows Live for another program and let it install to this default directory.Considering all the CTD problems you are having - and it may be a really, really long shot - if you want to give it a try, you could always try the following, and I would try in the order listed:Delete the addons from within the GFWL program menu screen.Uninstall the Flight Program, from windows control panel add/remove programs.Uninstall Games for Windows Live.Go into your folders the above resided in, delete the folders themselves as well.Go into your appdata folders under your user name on C:, look under both roaming and local, delete any Flight folders.Reboot the PC.Download and install the Games for Windows Live program - let it install to it's default location on the C drive. Should be C:/ProgramFiles (x86Once GFWL is installed, go into it's settings menu, and there set your preferences on where you want it to install files, both the program and DLC.Reboot the pc again - just cause you can. Now, launch Games for Windows Live, verify your preferred install location settings are still there, find the Flight program and download/install it. Yes download it, don't rely on the cab file you have been using. It "should" install to your previously selected path you specified in the setting menu. Once Flight is finished, go look in that folder, make sure that is where it is. Launch Flight to confirm it works, and you can sign in ok. If all is ok there, then stop.CLOSE Flight, do not do the following from within the game! Do not even think about doing this from within the game!Start Games for Windows Live - find the DLC content you have already purchased - redownload it and it should install to your specified folder. Once finished take a quick look confirm that is where it installed. Remember it's folder name is a sequence of numbers, the adventure pack is 4d5308d2.Launch Flight, take a quick peek at the Map, confirm you have the adventure pack.Once the above is done, have back at it, keep your fingers crossed! Please understand, going through the above may very well do absolutely NOTHING for your CTD issues. Personally I could not live that that issue, and would do anything I could to resolve it. It may have all be in vain should you try this - I guess the only thing you would gain if it did not work, is having both the addon folder and flight folder together where you really want them. You would lose a lot of time. And still be stuck with the same issue. But maybe, just maybe... who knows, I have seen stanger things.I truly hope you get your issue resolved sooner rather than later, best of luck to you Phil,EDIT: subsitute Games for Windows Marketplace, I was referring to it above incorrectly as Games for Windows Live - duh.
