March 11, 201214 yr To add to this if Microsoft opens up Flight to cover the whole worldThere's an achievement that is about how many times around the world you've flown..Do they mean around alaska a few hundred times? i think not...I think once MS realise they can satisfy both camps in the way FSX never did (by both camps I mean hardcore simmers and people who just like to jump in and "play") they'll crack, get cool stuff in it more quickly and more often, and as Dillon says above, Flight will be the only show in town..Isn't it funny how we were all (a lot of us) predicting how Flight would be crud, and now we're all (a lot of us) debating how quickly it will "replace" FSX :LMAO:bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 11, 201214 yr I guess we have another Hard Core simmer in our midst. I have to give the boys in Redmond credit for pulling us all in from various levels. I'm a hard core simmer in the fact I actually went to the Northwest Airlines (before they were Delta) Level-D simulators thanks to some friends in high places on many occasions just to compare what we have in FS to what pilots actually train on. I wanted to see in an emergency could I land a 744, A320, DC9 if my life depended on it. I'll only say this we have allot at our fingertips thanks to developers like iFly and PMDG. I'm also a real world GA pilot as well and in the not so distant past I was in VFA-94 an F/A-18 squadron operating out of Lemoore CA that was also assigned to the USS Lincoln CVN-72 (which I got a chance to fly out to and land on). During my tenure in VAQ-34 I flew back seat many times in our two seater F/A-18 block C aircraft. When I worked for Fedex I jumpseated many times in the flight deck our our DC-10, MD11, and 727 aircraft. I'm saying all this to say I'm enjoying Flight and I feel it's a sim not a game in the context of the flight models, the performance, and the overall feel of the sim engine. I'm really enjoying it and as an FS9er who's mostly an Airline flyer sim wise I've really taken to Flight as it's the most realistic in comparison to my real world GA flights. I stayed away from FSX as fluid flight is what flying is all about and Flight delivered in this area on day one... Here's a pic of one of my trips to the Level-D simulator with my son. It doesn't get anymore hardcore than this and again I'm enjoying Flight...Holy Cow! I AM impressed! :yahoo:Kind regards,
March 11, 201214 yr Great post and thread! Same here, I was really against it, even worse than others, being an xplane nerd. MS is the mortal enemy of xplane, sort of like Ford vs General Motors. But it's flight feel, the environment, lighting and fps has won me over. Ha, and these are early days! Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
March 11, 201214 yr Touchdown... I just did my first full non-stop crossing of all the Islands.. Flew out of Barking Sands and bee lined it to Hilo bouncing off VOR's the whole way. I haven't done that type of flight in years.. And I'm considering refueling and heading back now. :LMAO: Every day I play this simulator the more I love it. Not to mention wiki has been getting a lot of use. I've learned so much about Hawaii and it's history from this also. Can't wait for more! March 11, 201214 yr Flight will attract less hard core types, as MS wanted it to, but as we all know, flying is a bug, and once you get bitten by it, it's there for life. There are loads of people who like aeroplanes who will have been put off trying a flight simulator because of the perceived nerdiness of it, or the scary concept of it being a complicated simulator. Just go to an airshow and see how many people are there watching aeroplanes. People like aeroplanes, and MS knew what they were doing when they dropped the word simulator from Flight. But if anyone thinks that's a bad thing, then think about this...There will be many who try Flight, who would never have tried MS Flight Simulator. They'll like Flight's fun and easy intro approach, they'll get bitten by the bug, and some of them will come to Avsim or some other forum to find out more about aeroplanes, or perhaps chat in-game about flight sims and hear about all these PMDG airliners and such and the challenges they offer, then want to know more about them. By its very existence, Flight will bring more people into the flight simming community, and if you are a hard nosed, hard core simmer, you too will see the benefits of that new blood, with a wider customer base making flight simming of all kinds become a vastly more viable proposition for developers.Flight will probably do more for flight simming than all the previous versions of FS put together.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
March 11, 201214 yr I don`t think so.This is the only forum i found that shows "positive" aspects of Flight. All other FlightSim forums i got in my favourites don`t talk much about Flight, except that it is bad and not a sim, not even worth to download for free.I fear that most but not all "hardcore" FS9/X simmers disregard Flight and the "community" is divided into 3 parts now.

So it's not just about what Flight is now, but what it will be and what it can do to make flight simming less nerdy. Flying is fun, and Flight is far more able to convey that than FSX or FS9 or X-Plane, it celebrates the fact that you don't have to don sackcloth and ashes to be into aeroplanes, they are cool and fun, Flight conveys that aspect brilliantly. And when people are hooked by Flight, they'll look for other flight sims too, you wait and see.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

But it is a funny thing about truth, it rings true. Same thing about mistruth, it sounds a bit off. The truth is, Flight is an excellent Flight Simulator, limited at this point, but nevertheless, excellent. Truth always finds a way, even to people with fingers in their ears behind closed and locked doors. The rest will just go wherever the crowd goes.If Flight was from a small company, then perhaps being mocked, slandered or ignored might strangle it in the cradle. But that will not happen with Flight because it would appear that MS will do whatever it takes to make it successful. They have a plan, and the money and ability to make it work. Those three things, along with opportunity, spell success. Kind regards,
March 12, 201214 yr Author It is a really great sim, but we just need TrackIR.......Amen brother, I need that desperately!! Don B
March 12, 201214 yr I have the same enthusiasm for Flight that I had decades ago when "F/A-18 Interceptor" for the Amiga came out. That's the one with the missions you fly near San Francisco. At the time it was the best thing I'd seen in a flight sim. A few years later "Flight Unlimited" was "it". So I'm another one of those long-time sim pilots that gives a thumbs up to Flight. It's great, but I know it can be better, and I know it will be. I'm along for the ride.
March 12, 201214 yr One thing about Flight is that it has made me realize how good FSX is ...with orbx and rex !!! and how really advanced it was when it was released.I am enjoying having both platforms on my machine
March 12, 201214 yr I had decided they changed their product focus, for the arcade gamers and were leaving us serious flight simmers in the dustMhmm. You had not decided ;-) MS has annouced the new focus in 2009 first ;p
March 12, 201214 yr Btw,I've decided to give it a try yesterday. And I've been positively suprised about the quality of the product. What I liked: Great Fluidity and FPS Stability (no more stuttering) Great dynamic and feeling (very close to "another" newly updated sim) Challenges and Job Board (I liked the Hangar, AirClub feeling the game is bringing). I see it more as a RPG than a pure hardcore sim which can become boring sometime. It's goog to get out of routine.. Great Graphic Texture. (I wish the "other" newly updated sim had this texture quality.) So even if the "SimGame" has not as tweaking parameters depth as some wellknown sim, i'm still very enjoying it. As well as the "Other" sim. Really
March 12, 201214 yr Dburne its a good thing your getting into Flight . from the first day i laid my hands on a beta build it was not hard to tell that this is not anywere near any arcade game . even in the beta forums you could tell that it was not full with xbox arcade players . No casual arcade player that has no interest in aviation wants to know crap about whats all that staff in the panel for or has no interest in knowing what a taxiway sign means at all .The more positive feedback that the MS DEVs get the better this will besome in the future.
