March 13, 201214 yr Thanks for sharing another video. I notice you and a few others fly without the HUD. I'd like to try that but I can't quite make out the guages well enough. Perhaps a little zoom. Jason BocheDelta Virtual Airlines Assistant Chief Pilot, B767-300

Perhaps a little zoom.Same problem here - my aging eyes ain't nowhere what they used to be, I would need some pretty good reading glasses to be able to read them, and possibly even zoom as well. March 13, 201214 yr Thanks for sharing another video. I notice you and a few others fly without the HUD. I'd like to try that but I can't quite make out the guages well enough. Perhaps a little zoom. From reading posts in this community, I have since actually turned off my HUD. I'll admit, this is a bit rare for me, I like the info to be easy to see. But it makes for such an amazing experience to use the instruments, and visuals. I also spend more time flying in cockpit view. You could try zooming in once in a while to have a closer view of your instruments, then hit 'backspace' to return to normal zoom.Oh, and awesome video Styckx!
March 13, 201214 yr Author Nice! that must've been one huge set of FRAPS video files.32 - 4.1gb files.. (technically 31.. The last file wasn't a full 4.1gb)Import all 32 into editor.. Save so it's one single movie.. Open new movie in editor, adjust speed, save again. Getting them down to a single 206mb file and then uploading took longer than the actual flight did. :)Thanks for the nice comments from everyone.. March 13, 201214 yr Thanks for sharing another video. I notice you and a few others fly without the HUD. I'd like to try that but I can't quite make out the guages well enough. Perhaps a little zoom.I found that editing the cameras.cfg file for 0.75 zoom allows me to read the gauges clearly while still maintaining some peripheral vision. The number you need will depend on your monitor size, resolution and eyesight, of course. :Nerd:Analog needles provide information on rate of change and trends over time that numbers in the HUD just don't convey well, plus you'll find yourself using important things like the VSI which you may be ignoring now. My landings in Flight greatly improved when I turned off the HUD.
March 13, 201214 yr Can't fly that far without an autopilot and a Dewars and water. Autopilot would make the scotch and water possible.Stan
March 13, 201214 yr Author Well the RV in fair weather is easy to dial in to fly completely hands off once you have your heading lined up. As long as you stay below roughly 9,000ft. Above that seems to be a little turbulent air even in fair weather as you get into the cloud layers. My decent to Hilo was just done with the trim keys and taking control for the turn to the runway and landing. I'd say 95% of that flight was hands off or just minor corrections in trim or heading.. I'm not entirely sure, and I know it has been discussed before on here if this is prototypical for the RV to fly so straight for so long hands off.If that was normal weather with some wind the video would've been a bouncy mess.
