Downloadable content

Recommended Posts

As everyone else that is posting in this forum, I am enjoying flying in the new world of Flight. Likewise I check AVSIM forum and https://news.microsoftflight.com/blogs/news/ for the updates to Flight. This program has brought a level of excitement that I am throughly happy with. I am waiting like everyone for more downloadable content. My question is this... How long does it take to develop a working aircraft model that we can have implemented in Flight? We have beat to death the question of what kinds of scenery and aircraft should be implemented, but just how long does it take to release a single aircraft to the game (with cockpit). I will hang up and listen now. :)

How long is a piece of string? The Flight Team have indicated that they plan to release one new aircraft per month.

It depends:How much in depth you want to go. You can make just 3d model, or to make bad 3d model but to make nice flight model. YOu can make clickable cockpit with in depth systems, or just eye candy virtual cockpit without any system or clickspot...How much people you have to work. How complex aircraft is.How much data you have available, and do you have actual aircraft on demand to test real behavior.Do you have some experience mechanics and pilots of that aircraft type to give you proper inputs. So it can vary from 10 days to few years.

I can see the points made, however I have taken limited Java and programming classes and it would seem that the aircraft in FSX have already been developed and tested, would it be possible to "copy" any of that code and make it useable in Flight? Sure there may need to be adjustments, but they are both Microsoft products so copyright should not be an issue. That would give at least 10 more aircraft for Flight.

It is very possible to recompile aircrafts for FSX to work in flight, but microsoft do not want to release SDK, because they do not want 3rd party addons in flight. It is possible to import FSX aircrafts in flight via methods other than with SDK, but again, MS flight do checksum every time you start the game and if anything is not MS original content, error window will popup. You can bypass that on several ways, but it would be completely illegal, or partially illegal, depend of method you use.Thats pretty much it for now.

Actually, nothing is possible at all without access to the original source files. Additionally, since all downloadable content can only come from MSGS, it's really not even a question that has an answer at this point...

Ha Ha well I wasn't saying that I would be the one to import the aircraft, however I would not be against Microsoft's DEV team "stealing" their own code in FSX to place in Flight.
