March 25, 201214 yr In my default FSX file I have two icons, they look exactly the same as the FSX desktop icon except it is a white plane on a grey background, not a blue one. When I double click on them a black rectangle box opens up, for about a second (looks the the .cmd box). Does anyone know, what these icons are for? Does FSX Gold Edition come with FSX, FS9, FS2000 and FS2002?
March 26, 201214 yr Commercial Member I have always wondered why those were there, too. My reaction the first time I saw them was the as yours, FlyerVB. I was thinking "Wow, FS7, FS8, FS9, and FSX all in one! :( Brandon Filer
March 26, 201214 yr Move them out and you'll see that FSX will run just fine.Unless you have one of those addons that look for them!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
March 26, 201214 yr Move them out and you'll see that FSX will run just fine.I can see it now - the new tweak - remove the old .exe's and FSX runs better Bud Estrada
March 26, 201214 yr What are the benefits, if I may ask? Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.
March 26, 201214 yr There are none. Leave the files in place, don't worry that they are there, don't do anything with them, don't try to run FS 2000 from any of them, it's a non-issue.
March 26, 201214 yr You could try and rename the other ones one at a time to fsx.exe and see what happens That is if you are bored and looking for a little bit of excitement.Bob Officially retired

March 26, 201214 yr The moon is made of green cheese too.I think it's white. It looks like Squishy has been around awhile. My guess he is trying to be funny :Liar:Squishy, try this.I hang around about 1500 foot or so and wait for a heavy on final. I match his approach speed + 10 knots, fly over him and land in front of him. Then I slowly apply my brakes to slow him down.I never thought this could be done in FSX. This sim never stops amazing me. Officially retired
March 26, 201214 yr Moderator Those are simply "stub files" and serve no purpose other than acting as flags for those few add-ons that look for the old sim .exe files during an installation. They allow for backwards compatibility. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
