Marrying the right women? - Yes, aviation related.

So listen, I'm really not in the mood to get flamed over this. So if you want to breath fire, please go waste your energy in the FLIGHT forums or something.Anyways, I'm 18 and I've been dating my girlfriend for just over a year now. I don't want to sound confident - nor can I look into the future - but in the next upcoming years (if all goes to plan) I would really like to marry her...This poses a problem, as she just turned 18 this past week and now has a criminal record. Long story short, her friend pressured her into popping something into her purse and walk out of a Walmart with it. Airports are not the only places with those "criminal detectors" that seem to go off whenever someone does something wrong :( sorry - I have to smile at one point. So I'm located in Canada, and my question is: with my future career path being in aviation (pilot, already accepted into 3 college flight programs) would (potentially) marrying her come up as a red flag? With jobs with larger airlines you need an airside pass to inspect your airplane - and they look through your record with a high power magnifying glass, my dad used to have one of these passes at SkyService. Would I be able to obtain one of these passes?I love her, and I love aviation. However, I am so scared right now that I won't be able to have both in my life. Hopefully there is a pilot on here with my same issue or a lawyer who is familiar with Canadian laws and can maybe bring some insight to me. Anything helpful is greatly, and I mean truly, appreciated. **One more thing guys, I put this in the PMDG general forum because A) it is a general forum that posts can be about almost anything aviation related, :( More people look through the PMDG forum each day than log into Facebook and C) because I know PMDG consists of really good guys who love flying and will look through this post and can potentially help out. Thanks guys,Cameron CaldwellApparently :( is a cool emoticon guy haha. I meant to say ***B )

Being in a relationship with someone who has a criminal history shouldn't be a red flag. If you have a criminal history I think that would be a red flag.Wait a few (more than a couple) years to really get to know her before you marry her. Just my opinion.

I don't think your future wife's past/history will affect your future.
I sure hope not. I really appreciate your response! Sorry to bring the mood down with the release of those new T7 shots :(

Does not matter.. By the time you have enough hours to apply to a major you will be on wife #2 maybe even #3...

Agreed, I have a lot more time before I even set marriage into motion, just scared as to if something was to ever come between aviation and her.

Some people forget what they have at home and do things. Or the significant other is just too lonely and can't deal with the fact that a pilot may be on the 777 or 744 and on the other side of the world.

My father-in-law calls it AIDS: Airline Induced Divorce Syndrome. It's bad in most aviation-related jobs. We don't have the most stellar record in ATC either.

Shouldn't be ab problem, although I did hear of a case (in the US) where a lady's husband prevented her from getting a security sensitive job. I think your girlfriend was caught shoplifting? I doubt that would raise many red flags. Just my opinion.PaulPS.- in relation to getting married, all pilots tell me the same thing...either don't do it, or keep your first wife. This thread reminds me of someting that was posted elsewhere:http://forums.jetcareers.com/threads/cool-pilot-story.136470/

I'm not ever sure how to respond to you. I want to laugh because of my humorous side, but at the same time it gripes me that you would come into someone's thread and be so callous. Welcome to the Avsim community, where we at least act like we give two s***s. So here's a better way of spaying what you said: "18 sure is young and a lot of things change over time."And my .02 on the matter. Make sure you know who you're dating, Cameron. I was lucky enough to learn at your age, "getting it over with" so to speak. I'm sure she's a nice girl if you like her so much, but we always have to be realistic and level with ourselves and what we're actually dealing with. That being said, getting married so young and pursuing a career in aviation is unfair to both parties. Even today me and my girlfriend were discussing her choices in med school in the next few years when I start applying at airlines. Lot's of undue stress I could have saved myself years ago, if you catch my drift. To answer the question: No problems, it's simple theft I'm sure. She may even be able to get it expunged anyway. Don't condemn her, but definitely don't support the behavior. Not meaning to sound condescending. Just adding my opinion!

It's a lot easier to marry down the road instead of at your age. The first 10 years of your career are difficult and even more so trying to keep someone happy while you are gone for weeks at a time. I haven't seen my wife for nearly two months while I've been in training. It takes a special person to be alone while you are away doing what you love.

In the US, this might set off alarms if you were applying for a security clearance. I don't know if commercial pilots (or ground crew at airports) get this level of scrutiny. But, I think it's more important to warn you that 18 is very young to be making decisions of this nature. You both have plenty of time and there is no reason to rush this.

No it's only your personal record. Even then if you get arrested it just has to be explained.
